I envy the guys that make season long, constantly updated stories. I could never do that, partly due to lack of time but primarily due to a lack of perseverance.
Anywho, I've decided to write a story - with a twist.
Will randomly choose a tour and team (real startlists, though). Let's see if you can guess which team I'm controlling.

Pereiro starts of this years Vuelta. Very appropriate that it's a spanish rider that is the first one to go.
Milrams Fothen is one of the favorites of this stage. He proved the bookmakers right by taking a podium finish.
The first GC contender to start is Gutiérrez. He didn't have one of his best days today.
Cobo finished strong, but found himself distanced by 12 seconds.
Menchov is preparing for his Vuelta start. One of the absolute favourites, both of the stage and the GC. The russian finished 4th.
Team Columbia has a whole bunch of TTers in this race, but Kirchen must be considered their captain. A disapointing 18th place for the luxembourgian.
World TT champion Grabsch whoed why he is the best and took the stage win. He will wear the golden jersey tomorrow.
One of the favourites in the points classification; Boonen. Unfortunately for him, he was a few seconds to short to score any points today.
Boom was the biggest dissapointment of the day as he only manged to finish as 36th. He'll still be a useful helper for Menchov.
Gerdemann pushed as hard as he could, but it wasn't enough. He had the 10th best time of the day.
Arguably the biggest spanish hope for the GC, Sami Sánchez, enjoyed a decent start of the Vuelta loosing no more than 13 seconds.
Hincapie at the startline. He was very focused today and managed to finish second. Who will be able to stop Columbia in the TTT?
The other Sánches, Luis Léon, and the other big spanish hope. He also started the Vuelta in a positive manner, finishng only 7 seconds behind todays winner, as lucky number 7.
Ivan Basso gave it all he had. He managed to beat team mate Niballi by a few seconds, but didn't make top ten as he finished as number 12.
Popyvich is finaly captain of Astana in a GT. He looked very enthusiastic about this as he accelerated away. 9th place today.
Grabsch enjoying his time on the podium.

Stage 2
This will be one for the sprinter teams.
Right off the bat people started attacking. It was like they've waited for this moment for a long, long time.
THe first established break of the day featured Haddou, Ljungkvist, Sapa, Paulinho, Pliuschin and Duval. A group of another six riders were behind them.
Knees is first over the only climb today, so he'll be leading the mountain classification. The breakaway group is now 14 man strong and working well together. With 123 kms to go they have a healthy 7 min lead. Stil plenty of time for the sprinter teams to reel them back in.
The sprinter teams have woken up and joined forces. You can just see the breakaway group in the distance. They hold just under 4 minutes lead with 55 kms to go. They are doomed.
A last act of desperation as some of of the riders attack from within the breakaway group. The peloton is closing fast.
With 15 kms to the finishline, the last riders were caught by the peloton. Nice try.
With 5 kms to go, all the main sprinters are there: Hushovd, Bennatti, Napolitano and Boonen. What a list of names.
3 kms to go and Katusha is looking good, Napolitano sitting behind lead out man McEwen.
And it's the perfect delivery. Surely Napolitano can't be caught now.
Napolitano celebrating the stage win. He can't thank McEwen enough for that one. Hushovd is second and Breshcel third.

It's nice too see people guessing, keeps me motivated. naturally I won't reveal anything until the end. I hope you'll enjoy the story regardless.
The next stage (post tommorrw) will feature some drama and the first rider is forced to abandon the Vuelta due to injury following a crash. Is it a team leader? |
