After a disappointing Amstel Gold for most of the strong Hilly riders, they will be looking to make up for it today.
Vaugrenard and an Orbea rider can see the finish! Shame they won't actually get there until 145km and the chances are they won't be in the lead by then. An extract from the FDJ radio:
Vaugrenard: I gotta question
DS: Go ahead
V: I see the finish, can't I just hop over the barriers, ride across the fields, hop over the barriers, and ride to the finish?
DS: No
V: Why not, it would give us a win.
DS: That's cheating.
V: But the other guy in the breakscheating anyway, I saw him take out a needle and stick some EPO in himself!
DS: Well, ask to borrow the needle?
Anyway, back to the action and as these 2 continued to extend the lead, a mixture of Saunier Duval, Ag2r, Bouygues Telecom, Caisse d'Epargne and Lampre riders set a controlled pace up the Mur de Huy. Saunier Duval completely took over for the first part of the descent, Schleck showing off maybe?

The next climb was tough again, at over 14% for the majority pf the climb. Saunier Duval again came to the front in the descent and this time their plan worked!
Bertogliati, Trentin, Ventoso, Schleck, Gomez Marchante, Paulinho, Sanchez Gonzalez and Kirchen broke off from the pack. They were reeled in but the effect wasobvious as they reached the flat sector, following another short climb.
The peleton was now down to just 31 riders. With 93km to go, they held a 1'15 advantage over a chasing group of 12: Andy Schleck, Savoldelli, Amstel Gold winner Pozzato, Mazzanti, Evans, Cobo, Zaballa, Vila, Fedrigo, Florencio, Pineau and Castano. CSC were the big losers, as their leader Gilbert was now nearly 3 minutes behind the peleton. There was now just a small matter of catching the 2-man breakaway. 4'31 with 91km to go, Easy!

Cofidis, Saunier Duval and Lampre set the pace, with Gerdemann (TMobile) and Paulinho (Discovery) also helping.
As you can see from the picture, the chasing group of 12 are beginning to catch up on Group E2. Caisse and Bouygues decided they did not like this so sent men forward to move E2 away from E3 (A little odd since 3 Bouygues riders were in E3). It worked though as the gap increased again, although this was mainly due to only Andy Schleck being willing to work in the group of 11 (Florencio had now been dropped).

Time for the breakaway duo to have their hopes crushed, maybe they should have taken that shortcut earlier? The chasing group of 10 is now falling further back (Not 11, as another bouygues rider had been dropped from the group).
15km later and only the Orbea rider has been dropped, with Vaugrenard still there. Lampre are currently the strongest team in the gorup as they still have 7 riders. Discovery and Saunier have 6. The chasing group is now 3 minutes behind and is built up of 44 riders, the CSC led Gilbert group had successfully caught the disfunctioning group of 10.

Down to 31 now as Vaugrenard has been dropped. In the distance, Hartley of BMC Racing is visible he and 2 crappy Italian riders are last on the road, 23 minutes behind. Back up front and finally.. ATTACKs!

So, as things begin to settle. Cunego and Sanchez hold a 13 second lead over Valverde and Schleck. 27 seconds behind Valverde/Schleck is a group of 13, while behind them is a group of 13 Saunier, Cofidis, Discovery and Lampre riders, who have done their job and can now ride easily into the finish. Sergio Paulinho lies inbetween the 2 groups of 13 (Unlucky!). The first chasing group of 13 is made up of: Gil, Lowe, Bettini, Gerdemann, Vanendert, Moreau, Nocentini, Kirchen, Sinkewitz, Sanchez Gil, Marzano, Santambroglia and Merckyx.

Schleck and Sanchez both simultaneoulsy took a drink, before simultaneously attacking. There appears to be no reaction from neither Cunego nor Valverde. Cunego does eventually react but can not make it back up to the 2 leaders. Valverde would appear to be spent.

Having forced Schleck to work for 6km, Sanchez launches an attack as the final climb up the Mur de Huy is about to commence. Cunego trails by 33 seconds, with Valverde a further 23 seconds back.
The group of 10 are now 1'44 behind Sanchez/Schleck. Bettini is probably the favourite to take 5th, but watch out for Koldo Gil - who has done no work since Schleck attacked.

Sanchez Gonzalez got a little gap as the climb began.
Schleck immediately caught up though and theyre level with 2km to go. No attack from the group of 10 yet. from either of the Gils or anyone else.

Schleck got a little gap to Sanchez, but Cunego is going a whole 1kmph quicker, and the gaps between all the groups seem to be shortening. Then again they always appear to on the climbs.

Schleck is pulling away, with Sanchez fading fast. Cunego moves into 2nd and Sinkewiytz leads the charge behind, closing in on Valverde.

Sinkewitz moves in to 3rd as both Sanchez and Valverde are passed by the leading riders of the 10. And a rider has exploded and gone off the back of the 10?
Will it be a rider who has a teammate in there?
A rider on his own?
One of the Gils?
If you said yes to the last 2 youd be correct, as inevitably, to Addys annoyance. Luis Leon Sanchez Gil is dropped!

Cunego's fading past and the riders are closing in on him.
But he just about makes it home in 2nd.
It's going to be a photo finish for 3rd though...
