I'm almost certain that the problem is with the graphic card/driver (nvidea 8800GT; 186 18 driver) but still couldn´t manage to solve the f*... problem!
..any thoughts about this?
today i tried something else, i use the program explorer suite and changed the pcm.exe file to handle more than 2gb memory ...but still don't worked. Any ideas?
Yeah, go to Windows' Event Viewer, and check what error it gives when/after or just before you crash.
I had problems running PCM09, thought it was the game, than I thought it was Win Vista and tried Win7... I know, lets go to an even less proven OS to try out a crashing game.
I eventually underclocked my videocard cause its from Sapphire (says enough), and dont crash anymore
i see theres some days since you posted this but anyways, heres what i've learned so far.
Ive got a GeForce 8800 GT too...
But OS is Vista x64.
Ive had ALOT of problems myself with different errors accuring almost every race in 3d.
Now after my 10th diffrent approach, i think i found something that made it run, if not perfect yet, then alot better then it was. Now remember, ive tried alot of shite before i come too this "solution" but even now, im not sure if i've just been lucky too run 4-6 3d races in a row, without any errors crashing the game or computer.
Now... The game crashed like it normaly did, earlier today, before i did the "fix" mentioned below.... (seeing you are running Windows 7, you might have a problem with my main & maybe most important step...)
I've tried rolling back drivers for my GFX card several times... but today i tried going all the way back too 178.24_geforce_winvista_64bit_english_whql.
(becouse this was kinda the time before my 8800 was outdated totaly...) Also used driversweeper too be sure i didnt have any files messing up my "rollback".
Tried too run the game, & now after 3-4 stages without any problems i got this PCM.EXE error.... BUT not the ususal one... kinda reminded me of the error back from 06-07-08.
And strangly enough this ALWAYS And ONLY happens when i see my "Free Physical Memory" is down too 0-10 MB.
Now.. This is totaly "normal" for Vista. It got a "service" called SuperFetch & is probably built into Win7 also?? Not sure but check it out.
This SuperFetch is actually loading all the RAM you got, up with potential programmes the is put there too be loaded even faster....
In theory And under normal circumstanses, theres probably no problem having this running.... BUT i've got this feeling the Cyanide somehow got problems running with it.... so i turned it OFF, and i think its smoother now... atleast i always got 5-6GB ram free of the 8gb, as said used too have 0mb free.
Too Turn Off SuperFetch, Simply:
Open Task Manager,
Press Services (Tab),
Press Services... (Button)
Find Superfetch under name
and rightclick then Properties
Swtich : Startup Type Too Disabled. (normaly at Automatic)
Finaly, go too Windows/PreFetch folder & DELETE all content.
Now restart machine. And all it done. Ur Vista RAM is finaly FREE
