So, breakway yesterday. The same all over again today?

Stage 9: Saint-Gaudens - Tarbes, 160,5km, mountains with final 70km downhill
Big mountains finish Pyrenees
The Pyrenees conclude with some legendary Tour de France mountain passes, the Col d'Aspin (12km at 6.6 percent) and the Col du Tourmalet (17km at 7.5 percent), where riders will be greeted by the masses.
An early breakaway will need good legs to master both of the challenging climbs and hold out until the finish, as there are still some 50 kilometres to cover to Tarbes after the descent of the Tourmalet. Depending on what happens within the group of favourites, this stage could be more nervous than it appears on paper, especially since the riders will be able to rest in Limoges the next day.

I reckon Moncoutie tries again, along with a Euskatel rider, an Ag2r rider and a rabobank rider.

I think break of Moncoutie, Ignatiev, Igor Anton. GC contenders go battle on the tourmalet. |

I got some strange feeling about Kloden going in a breakaway.

Breakaway will win. Look for the French teams and Euskatel as per usual.

Well, thats the point, if Kloden is in a break Astana wont lead the peleton, then Saxo and Columbia have to work again. They got a strong team but against a breakaway (with possibily other good riders). And Saxo/Columbia dont have the team to take time back on the Tourmalait.

Either he would be reeled in before he gets a gap or another favourite would follow him so that he would have to fall back or have astana chase him down.
So dont think Klöden will get into a breakaway tomorrow. He might try though. |

shame the Tourmalet's impact will be lessened by its distance from the finish. would have loved to see them finish atop Luz-Arididen.

Prudhomme wants the race to come down to the Mont Ventoux and so this set of mountains is basically nullified. It's a shame, but blame prudhomme.

But it would be more boring if the GC would be pre-decided in the pyrenees
So Andy and Co. should be more looking for the Alps because I think there are the deciding stages

The GC is almost decided already, which is a shame.

WTF?
Silence DS Hendrik Redant on eurosport now explaining the team's tactics in detail, exactly where they're going to try to shed the pack, where Evans is going to attack today (5kms from the top of the Tourmalet), how the guys from the break will try to be there to help him pull, etc....
Sure, standard tactics, but....why explain them in detail to the TV?

Possibly the most brilliant tactition ever, Cyrille Guimard has publicly advised Andy Schleck to attack 5 kms from the top of the Tourmalet.
Says he wouldn't win time this way, but it would send the Contador - Armstrong rivalry to boiling point, which is what Schleck needs to play with if he wants to win the Tour. |
