Can anyone tell me how to ride these things?
I always end far behind. To test I rode everyone 99% till the first checkpoint with Garmin to see if I came in front, but I was still 36 seconds behind liquigas on 10km... |

It's quite simple.
You need to make sure that your bad time trial riders take as short relays as possible, and that your best time trial riders take as long relays as possible - yet making sure that they have energy enough for the entire stage. |

Make sure your better TT's ride longer pulls and your bad ones ride shorter ones or not at all |

I can't win the Tour of Quatar TTT it is impossible... But I can win longer ones with about 30 seconds or more even with a mediocre TT team without any problem... |

I won the Tour of Qatar TTT with Garmin. I put Zabriske and Wiggins on front at 99%. They were the only ones who pulled, and I won by a second (on hard). |

I tried the same a few weeks ago... I had the same time as the other team, but lost |

You might try doing a search on this and include the pcm 2008 forums. There was a good thread that had a method based on the setting the seconds on the front from each riders time trial stat that seems to work well for me (apart from Qatar, which I just cant win).
However, other than the method seems to work I really don't fully understand why. I ran the Tour de France TTT last night with Astana. The first time I left everything alone (85 effort) and had my good TT guys doing most of the work, while managing energy levels to try and run out just at the end like a normal time trial. This failed miserably and I lost a bunch of time.
I then re-ran the course on 99% and tried the same seconds ratio I'd used before. It litterly ripped apart the team ala Garmin. By the first check almost every single rider was out of energy (though I did set the best time by about 7 seconds). I figured with no energy I was done, but since TTTs are short I decided to just let it keep running. To my utter surprise, despite the fact no one had any energy and we were shedding riders rapidly, at the second check the lead had been increased to a massive 45 seconds. Between the second checkpoint and the finish I don't think anyone on the team was relaying anymore, and the team was down to 5 riders. Despite this, we crossed the finish line and the lead had risen to a massive 1'45"??? Even my dropped riders who finished over 45 seconds behind put over a minute on the rest of the field.
My advise: Ride hard early, have your weak time trial guys do one short pull on the front and then just hang on, while the stronger men do the work. Don't really worry about energy levels on the strong guys as riders seem to be able to hang on remarkably well at no energy. To me it seems like all the CPU teams must be burning out before the end of the race, so you can afford to do the same. I will try and find the seconds link for you.
Edit: Shleck93s seconds method that I use can be found here.

Bear in mind that one PCM 09' there are many more people with 70+ in stats so you may need to modify this slightly so that the real good TTers stay on the front longer (or the low 70s shorter)
