Choice of Teams
CrueTrue
With a succesful release of the PCM.daily Expansion Pack, we're now working on the "full" DB with fully updated stats, many more new teams and races, new scouting zones - and so on.

The PCM08 DB had a wide selection of teams - it was quite 'exotic' as it had teams from Venezuela, Colombia, Japan, etc. It worked out alright in the DB as we could prevent these teams from starting in European races. In PCM09, it works a tad different.

Race participation is now primarily handled by the game. And for ithe game to handle it 'alright', it would have to have a certain amount of teams from a specific region. E.g., if you don't want teams from e.g. Denmark to participate in Vuelta al Tachira, you'd have to have c. 7-10 teams from South America.

This combined with the fact that we're not aiming to make the largest possible DB, but to make a 'standard' DB where finishing a season isn't too much to ask forces us to make a choice:

1. We keep the current 'worldwide'-like selection of teams, but with fewer from Europe and more from e.g. Japan and South America.

2. We get rid of the South American and Japanese teams and races and instead add more teams from Europe and North America.

Feel free to vote and/or debate.

Well, it actually depends on amount of teams, that you can put in DB.

In my opinion, if DB will have ~100 teams, then option 2 is sure thing. But if you can add up to 150 teams, then you can surely find some place for few Southamerican ones.

And I say clear NO to Japanese, Malaysian (maybe only Letua for more realistic Langkawi) or Australian teams and races.

PS: I don't know if I understood correctly... Tables from DB's, where you could set a lists of teams taking part in given race in career aren't working in PCM09 anymore?

Let me pin point this:
"This combined with the fact that we're not aiming to make the largest possible DB, but to make a 'standard' DB where finishing a season isn't too much to ask forces us to make a choice"

This, in my terms, mean c. 100 teams.

And yes, the race participation is primarily controlled by the game now. You can set the two main countries that a team should ride in, but that's it.

Option 1: more variety of nations, completely unrealistic racing fields.

Option 2: less variety of nations, more realistic racing fields

Gotta go with option 2

Meh, bad move by Cyanide... Previous system was much better - not the easiest one maybe, but giving much more realistic results.

Oh, and among 100 teams I see completely no place for small teams from outside Europe. Voting says the same, as I see.

I like having a few of the exotic teams/races but obviously realistic start fields is preferrable. I wouldnt want to see a whole load of small teams from Asia or South America replacing European teams, and more European teams seems a much better solution.

So, option 2.

Sadly ill have to go for option 2 despite the fact im a sucker for exotic nations. But dont use your newfound space for teams on a fuckton of british crap teams... Not again...

As opposed to danish crap teams?

Halfords, CandiTV and Rapha Condor should all be in there for Britain but other than that only Endura have a continental license and theyre rubbish. About the 8th best team in Britain, behind the main 3 plus 4 domestic teams.

Plowman Craven - Madison hit financial difficulties so became just Madison and arent a continental registered team any more.

No, as opposed to similar belgian, dutch and french teams since we should (if we have any sense) have more races from those countries

And they were (and are) shit. Which is the biggest point you missed off.

Also gotta go for option 2.

Does this mean that the v1 of the daily DB will hold ~100 teams or that the final version will? I'm also a sucker for exotic teams/races, but I think realistic start teams is more important. Won't make it any easier playing a small Portuguese team if the big guns show up at Volta ao Portugal.

CrueTrue
V1 will hopefully be the only (and therefore also final) version of the DB Wink

I would go for nr. 2 but it sadden me that we can't have the wolrdwide any more Sad

What if there were people who would like to help in the DB making? would you the consider making it a little bigger? I know you said that there only was gonna be one release but its just sad that there well not be a DB like the last one (Daily DB)

I believe that some people in the community would help to this project.

But of course its up to you in the end Wink

It's not about ressources. If we wanted to, we could have 200 teams. However, we're aiming to make a DB that "everyone" (like pop music Wink) wants to play - and the thing is that when you have way too many teams and races, it takes an eternity to get through a season,

So, 100 is the max (plus/minus), and therefore, there's a choice to make.

Please don't add too much races. It's already difficult to complete a season for me, to much races to simulate...

icecreamtester
Please add some smaller U.S. teams, i.e. Team Mountain Khakis, Colavita/Sutter Home

Ditch the American teams and build the .db based on the European Tour.

All UCI PT and Pro Continental Teams should be in.

Then try to include as many Continental European teams and races as possible.

cristiano
I prefer the 2. But if in the db you add a many free-agent anyone can add a teams....(sorry for my english but I hope you have understood)

CrueTrue
Well, we already realized yesterday that option 2 would be the best way to go. So, some teams have been removed, some have been added, and we're currently discussing the last 8 spots in the private forum.

The riders who've "lost their teams" are now free agents.

When is this DB going to be ready and up for download? Soon or in a few weeks?
