The riders left Brugge and were on their way.
T-Mobile, Quick Step and Milram controlled the early pace, and with 200km to go, there are still no attacks.
The next update comes at 150km to go, and we will have passed the first, short cobbles sector by then.

At 150km to go, the Peleton is already down to 104, a group of 53 chase, a minute back. The strongest cobblers in A1 are Luca Paolini and Geraint Thomas.
The cobble section was passed without incident.
Maybe therell have be an attack in the next 50km?

143 km to go.. and .. SOMETHING HAPPENS!!!!
Oscar Freire crashed, for seemingly no reason. No teammates cma back to help and it took him 8 kilometres of solo work to get back. The peleton is now all together again, all 157 of them. (Well, one of the riders I control has been dropped, but he doesnt count)

My crappy rider who has been dropped, abondoned. We arrived at a couple of shorter cobbles sections. Another of my riders punctured, and abondoned too!
Saunier Duval's Piotr Mazur hit the deck as a Quick pace from Quick Step split the bunch, with only T-Mobile and Thor Hushovd able to hang on.
An upcoming flat section should bring it all back together, but it looks ominous that Boonen will win.

The gorup of 14 ditched Hushovd and Piil but were cuaght at the foot of the Oude Kwaremont. Servais Knaven led the way but at the steeper cobbled climb of the Paterberg, Cedric Vasseur took over.
Disaster struck for Leif Hoste on the climb though!
As the riders descended the Paterberg some groups emerged.
E1: 7 Riders, 5 Quick Step Domestiques, Boonen and Hincapie
E2 +18: Cyril Dessel (QSI)
E3 +14: A group of 20, including Eisel, Nuyens, Flecha, Van Petegem, Pozzato, Burghardt, Ballan and Devolder.
E4 +56: 11 riders, including Hoj and Cancellara.
E5 +21: Group of around 20, including Gusev, Klier, Freire, O'Grady and Hoste.

Boonen led up the Koppenberg and Hincapie moved away from him in the descent!
As you can see - the time gaps are growing.

Hincapie's at the foot of the last big challenge - the Muur. There is 18km to go and he has just 25 seconds over Boonen.
Ballan is looking good in 3rd, but he is just 30secs ahead of Nuyens/Van Petegem - with Pozzato yoyoing off the back of the pair. Hoste, Ivanov, Devolder and Flecha are tipped to fight it out for places 6-9 and Cancellara is currently soloing in 10th.

Hincapie conquers the Muur!
But its not looking good as Boonen is ever so close now.
Further back, Ballan appears to be struggling, as he is being caught by Van Petegem and Nuyens. Pozzatto is still in the mix too, due to his hilly skills.

The bosberg is done with, 10km of flat left to fight with. Hincapie's used his strong descent skills to edge a little gap, but he better hope Boonen is unable to sprint.

BOONEN win it! The catch came at 2.2km to go, Big George has nothing left to give and Boonen is victorious.
Meanwhile, over the race radio, the dreaded words for the CSC boss: "Ballan is in trouble"
