With a maximum of 37 KoM pts available, will Zandio feel the need to attack and make sure he keeps the jersey, or could Kreuziger take it back on the final stage? Vinokourov will be wary of Dekker, as he has only a 17 second lead over him. We shall also have to see and whether Dekker tries to defend his 3point lead over Pozzato in the Points classification.

Kreuziger did make it into the breakaway, but it was his companion from Stage 6, Kevin de Weerdt, who was stronger, and able to take the KoM classification.

De Weerdt was the last to be caught, just before the top of the final climb. The favourites attacked at the top and this is how it ended up:

Pereiro worked hard on the descent to get as much time as possible up on Koldo Gil, who had missed the move. In between Pereiro/Vino and Gil's group of approx. 18, lay Dekker, Julich and Devolder.

Vinokourov secured his overall victory with the stage win, while Pereiro had done enough to move ahead of Gil, into 3rd Overall and a Podium spot.
