First proper climbs of the season, its a hilly stage!
And more people are interested in getting in a break now. Of them, former leader Richeze and Lars Ulrich make it to the intermediate sprint first. Guess who won
Dyadichkin, Li, Powers, Galparsoro and Lai join up with them to make it a break of 7
Surprisingly though, Richeze couldnt win the other sprint - Lai naps it ahead of powers
They were still ahead as the main hill was reached - and Sergio Pardilla attacked from the peleton
And in a strong climb, Pardilla bridges up the 3 minutes to the break
The group then split with Dyadichkin, Galparsoro, Lai and Pardilla going clear
They are about to approach the first KoM of the race. But they dont battle for it, and Galparsoro continues the strong start to the race for Santander
Theres also points on offer for 5th place, and Stubbe attacks from the pack to take it
Despite the 4 leaders' best efforts though, they were to be called with roughly 4km to go as the pack approaches the slightly uphill finish
Theres no real organisation to the sprint - with Gallego and Gonzalo at the front
But who will emerge as the winner?
Gonzalo leads in the charge up to the line
But Mercado and Valjavec are powering up the inside
Its a win for Mercado!
Pardilla celebrates, alongside Perez Arrieta who keeps the race lead
