Hi
I've been reading tips and hints here and there, but there are still open questions to what I should do in many circumstances. How would you plan your race in the following situations?
1) I need a top 5 in the Tour de France. My best stage racers are Kirchen and Rogers, which is not among the strongest stage racers. Løvkvist and Hincapie are my best helpers available. How should I race in the mountains?
2) When I want to move forward in the bunch to place my favourites more to the front. What is the most energy efficient command? (Dot/Relay/Other?) |

1) Use the dot in the mountains, if you relay you will waste your energy... Just use enough effort to keep up with the other riders
2) Same thing, use the dot |

Should I follow any attacks, for instance?
(And btw what's up with race days. From what I read, youngster should have 40 days of racing at max, while other should max have 60. I find that not that realistic - should I only have Cavendish riding 40 days a year - for example?) |

Follow the race favorites...
Don't know about racedays, but I think you can let Cavendish race 60

I dont think you can ruin a young rider's potential by racing only 40 days, because I rode nearly 80 with Capecchi with Fuji-Servetto and he still progressed during the next season as normal. |

I'm not sure, but I think it only counts for scouted riders first year...

Could well be. I'd like this question answered!
40 days seems really small as well, like in the olden days before PCM08 when 40 days used to be the beginning of the end for your riders regardless of time between races... |

This about racing days are really important. 40 days at max means that is is impossible to be a fairly big team with lots of talents (when are they considered "grown ups?). And for the small bits and pieces I have seen, suggest that the older ones shouldn't exceed 60 either... |

In that case I've ruined every young rider I've ever managed, because they end up having nearer 80. Only leaders in my teams get around 60. Maybe I should go bigger teams... |

How many seasons have you gone through? Have your youngstern grown up to be top class? |

I've never really played much beyond 2 and a bit seasons with pcm08, mainly due to the release of a new daily db
So riders are still progressing, but some show signs that they will be world class (imo any rider with above 80 in an useful attribute). But maybe they could have been even better? This, I don't know. |

Would be great if someone ho has managed a long career could say something about this?
(Or if anyone else simply know!) |

In my experience raceing 50-60 race days doesn't damage young riders growth, also I am pretty certain there were a couple of young riders (20-22) who I raced 80 days in a season and they still ended up doing pretty well.

I may be a bit late. I have the same goal, top 5 in TDF with Columbia.
I know i'm hardly strong in the mountains, so i've got time on any stage i can. Look at kirchen's strengths. On mountains keep with the favouites or not too far behind.
Then on easier stages look for places you may be able to get a few seconds (or even minutes).
It's working for me (1st rest day, in Yellow). I know i can't keep yellow, but if i just do enough i can make top 5.

Kirchen is great for stealing seconds on the more "hilly" stages with a well timed breakaway....and with Rogers you need to hammer the TT's and hold on in the mountains. |

Thanks for all advices. It was not too late (I'm only in April struggling with the hilly classics!).
From the responsens it seems that I'll let Rogers take a conservative approach, hold as good as possible in the mountains - and practice TTs! And have Kirchen to take som risks on the hilly stages and see where that goes. |

Correction: Make use of training camps if you think it's too difficult to win - and keep in mind that the AI doesn't use them |

I'm just saying he was having a hard time and was worried about achieving his goals. It is tool that you have available why not use it if you think you might need that little edge. |
