Hi - Ive been playing this game for years and Ive yet to manage to successfully download and instal one of these great databases everyone talks about. So every year I buy the game (normally August in UK), and by the time I get used to the changes, the cycling season comes to an end, I lose interest for a month or two and then I dont start getting into the game properly until this time of the year when the seasons getting into full swing. By that time my game feels out of date with all the real life team changes, transfers etc. I really want to be able to download and instal a database and I dont know where Im going wrong. The very first question I always get is do I want to 'run' or 'save' the file? I have tried both in the past and neither seems to work. Where exactly so I run or save it to? When I tried to download the self-instal one tonight (thinking that would be straightforward even for me) it said that estimated time to download was over 3 hours!!!!! Surely not??? Why so long? What is this 'flashget' that it says to use? Does that cost me money to download and will it really make a difference? In the past ive downloaded databases and at the end it normally comes up thats theres been an error - a problem with a file, and its been a waste of time. Its a horror story! Can anyone help an idiot? If not I hope I gave someone a laugh anyway.

Hi there
Well, it's probably best if we do this by steps. Flashget is a utility (free!) to speed up your downloads. You can get it by clicking HERE.
Once you have it, run it and follow the instructions to install it.
After it's installed, try to download the database you want with the help of flashget. (or, alternatively, don't, but it may very well take the 3 hours that you mentioned) If you have any trouble using flashget, feel free to post here.
If not, (meaning if you manage to download a DB with flashget without trouble), post here which database it is you downloaded and we'll tell you how to proceed to install it Edited by issoisso on 26-03-2009 22:51
Ok, I have managed to download both the main database and the update and they are both sitting in my flashget 'downloaded' section. (And it didnt take 3 hours)! Thanks for your help getting me this far, now for the hard bit I guess? Whats next?
First of all, I'm assuming you have PCM08 and not PCM07, PCM2006, or any other, right?
Secondly, do you have the latest patch? patch 1.0.2.3?
If so, double-click the main database and it should start the installer, correct?
If so, click "next", and a screen with instructions will be shown, in steps. Follow the steps. If you haven't modified anything or installed anything since first installing the game and the patch, then only do step 4.
After that, click "next" again. On the next screen, click on "I agree with the above terms and conditions", then click next
you'll be prompted for the directory where your PCM is installed. Should be
C:\Program Files\Cyanide\Pro Cycling Manager - Season 2008
or similar. Make VERY sure this is correct. once you're sure it is, click "next".
On the next screen, click start. Wait for the progress bar to finish and your DB should be installed.
Did you get through all this? Did you have trouble? if so, where and what?
OK, I do have PCM 08 and the latest patch so Ill try and follow that through tonight and see how I get on. If that works ok what do I do with the update then? Thanks
