I'm sure this has been asked/discussed before, but couldn't find any mention of it in the forums...

What defines a mountain vs a hill? I assume it has something to do with gradient (and maybe combined with length of climb). I'm trying to align riders (based on their abilities) to races. For example, if rider XYZ is super strong in hills, but poor in mountains, I'd prefer to sign him up for races with "hills" and not "mountains". Also, would be good to know during racing, so that I have a good idea if I'm attacking/chasing when its the rider's strength vs a weakness.

Any guidance/thoughts here would be appreciated, StefanG.

It's nothing to do with the gradient of the climb or the length...

It's the hill/climb settings that are assigned to each individual stage...

It differs from 0.00 (hills) to 1.00 (mountain)...
When it is 0.50 the game uses both stats equally.

Thanks for the response. Is there a way to view these "assignments" prior to a race/stage? And if so, how?

And a follow-up question: it sounds like the assignments are to a race/stage as opposed to an invididual hill/mountain. Does that mean if a race/stage is assigned a value of .25, then my strong hill rider will be able to efficiently climb a mountain (if there happens to be one in the race/stage)?

You can view them al by opening up your save game or DB with an editor, either Hannes Converter or Advanced Editor. You find the information in STA_stage.

The attribute is assigned to a stage, not individual mountains, so yes, in theory, your hilly riders would be able to do good on mountain stages with wrong settings.
