anyone know anything about the causes of the german revolution of 1918? i know we have a few central european members who may know this kind of thing very well.
currently working on an essay for uni. i've pretty much gotten it all written down but i was just wondering what people thought about the subject so i could add a bit to my conclusion. |

And search for "Weimar Republic" as well. I don't know too much about it, but I know that before the revolution, the few sports that german's practiced were anything related to gymnastics, due to impositions of the Kaiser. After he ran away, football was introduced in the country.

Ask Klaus Jens. With a name like that, he can surely help you

thanks guys, it's more about the actual cuases more then anything else. I've broken it into 2 halves.
firts i've talked about the period leading up to the revolution. i've talked about the growing desperation of the people as food shortages take hold and the defeat seems inevitable. i've talked about the governments refusal to reform the constitution and the soldiers growing anger at knowing the war is lost but still being told to fight. i've talked about the refusal of the Emperor to abdicate which led to the breakdown of peace talks with America, which was ultimatly blamed on Prince Max and his government. and i've talked about the split in the SPD which freed up alot of the more radical socialists to form their own group away from the supervision of the more conservative original group.
after that i've talked about the actual events starting with the naval mutiny in Kiel, the refusal of the army to fight their fellow countrymen leaving the government powerless to stop the mutiny in Kiel spreading and turning into a revolution as more cities got taken over by worker and army councils. I've talked about the SDP pulling out of the German government and ordering the workers of Berlin to march to the government buildings and take over. Once Berlin fell the government had completely lost control and the Emperor finally abdicated.
basically i'm just working on the conclusion. Was the revolution an accident? can it really be called a revolution if it was an accident? who were the leaders, if any? that kind of thing.
cheers |

Which, according to the interwebz, is an old danish version of Jens. That or a pet name version of "Jordan". Choose. Jens seems less humilliating

Well revolutions almost never start out as revolutions, almost all start with riots which not get put down and then the government loose control. So the people who take power oin the end are often unrelated to the people who kick start the whole thing

I have just made 10 classes and not 13
We had just 2 history lessons in a week for the 10th grade there was just 2nd World War (which were boring because that what was teached, I got that already because of the many Hitler documentations in Germany in TV told that what was teached and more)
But you have luck that I am very interested in History
It´s important to have the mutiny I also posted the German Revolution thing :
https://en.wikiped...revolution
https://en.wikiped...ven_mutiny
It´s hard for me to write in english
I hope that the 2 wikipedia sites can help you because a word has many significances and if I choose the wrong word it wouldn´t be good I think
