Welcome to one of only two ITT classics in the MGUCI calendar – and the only one without cobbles! Man is already a familiar location for C2 time trials and is back to an individual one after being a TTT for the last two seasons. The favourites are – not very surprisingly – the best TTers of the CT.
With a very reduced startlist of 36 we’ll actually honour every Man riding here. The first one on the road is Walscheid. He’s also the worst TTer in the field and obviously only here to enjoy the nice British weather. He manages to get only passed by three riders and so is more than 7 minutes down despite being the first starter.
Terada is part of the only PCT squad in the race. He’ll hope to score some points here, we’ll see if a time of 57’15 will be enough for that.
Hennis clearly has some podium ambitions. He proves so by being fastest at the split and his time of 56’38 is the new best for now.
Talacka is another rider who’ll take some minor points for his team. He’s about a minute behind at the finish.
Rogora is a neo-pro, his visit to Man will mainly help him acclimate with the European weather conditions as he’s 4 minutes behind already.
Nyoni is already another calibre. He’ll eye on a top 10 finish, but he won’t make it, being already 15’’ down at the finish.
Shaw probably wouldn’t have dreamed of being mentioned in any TT report in his career. At least he’s looking good on his bike nonetheless as he is way off at the finish, being nearly 5 minutes behind.
Wang is mainly a recon Man for his leader Thomas, but he wouldn’t mind some minor points as well. He will have a hard time getting them though as he’s third to last for now.
Tesfom is the weakest Kraftwerk rider in the race and still a top 10 contender. He slots in 2nd at the finish, 9’’ behind the lead.
Irish outfit Glanbia opted to send some non-Irish riders to the Irish Sea as well. Wohler is 42‘‘ behind though.
Weinstein is next on the road. He’s provisional 6th, being 46’’ behind.
Veteran Sterbini will try to go for a top 10 today. He does what he can and sets a new best time of 56’33.
We have seen Buck-Gramcko in quite some breaks this season, but the TT bike is not his favourites one. He’ll battle with his teammates for the red lantern today and beats Walscheid by 19’’ in the end.
Bellan will be happy if he brings home some points for his team. This will be a hard task as he’s 3 minutes behind at the finish.
The next pirate on the road copies his teammate and is fastest at the time split as well. Croes is actually the fastest at the finish as well with a time of 56’31.
Avila is another rider who was forced to be here by his team to fill their roster. He takes revenge by don’t bringing points home, being nearly 5 minutes down.
Matte at least has a shot at points. He just makes it and leaves the needed 7 riders behind him.
But Hepburn is part of one of the renowned TT-invested teams. He is 7th for now, 44’’ down.
Kaczmarek will need a great day to fight for a top 10. He doesn’t have one and is only 11th at the finish for now.
Groselj is the second recon Man of his team. He only slots in 14th at the moment (but just enough to score at least one point), but more importantly he perfectly showcased the really elegant jersey-bike combo of his team, which isn’t necessarily matched by the cars manufactured by his main sponsor (and we’re by no way being paid by one of their rivals for this remark, they just don’t have Passion for Life).
Speaking of elegance: notorious tie-wearer Mathis finishes in provisional 4th, 11’’ behind the lead.
Oram is another rider from a TT-heavy team. He is only 11th at the finish though.
Le Huitouze will be a much better TTer one day, but he’s not there yet and won’t score any points today, being nearly 5 minutes down.
Eaton finishes the second round of riders. He’ll eye for a top 10, but he loses 28’’ for now and only slots in 7th.
Behrens is the best TTer of his team here and their only reasonable chance to avoid a zero-pointer. But he is only able to beat his two teammates in the end.
Hofer finishes in 14th for now, that won’t be enough for more than one point in the end though.
Cole doesn’t do as well as his teammates. He finishes in provisional 10th, but the best riders are still to come.
Price-Pejtersen finishes 29’’ behind in provisional 8th place.
Frison is much better. He’s only 3’’ behind at the finish in 3rd place which could be just enough for a top 10 spot in the end.
Cardona matched the best time at the split and was able to even accelerate afterwards. His time of 56’11 is a clear new best, but with the six best TTers still to come it probably will only be enough for 7th nonetheless.
Belevics also matched the best time at the split. He is 2’’ faster in the second part and takes the lead for now. Will it also be enough for a top 5 or even more?
Thomas was 2’’ faster at the split, but loses those 2 ‘’ in the second half. He’s judge as the leader on s.t. for now.
Christodoulos was another 2’’ faster at the split. He even gains some more seconds and finishes in a new best time of 56’01. Three riders are still on the road.
O'Loughlin matched the best time at the split. He’s 2’’ behind at the finish though, probably just missing the podium.
Politt clearly stopped for a coffee on his way. He is 7’’ faster than anyone else so far at the split and is the first rider under 56 minutes with a time of 55’50.
But the big favourite today is Sütterlin who proves this status by being fastest at the split by 15’’. He’s 36’’ in front at the end.
Congratulations to Sütterlin for an impressing win today!
