Tour of America - Stage 10

Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/profile.png

I think you can make the case that this is probably the 2nd hardest stage of the race. There are four categorised climbs today with each getting progressively harder. The caveat is that we finish on the flat after a downhill, but a bad day could still lead to big gaps. It's also a huge day for the KOM standings.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0001.jpg

There is an early category 3 climb to start the stage. KOM leader tries to go early, but scores only 2 points. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Langellotti and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Kaislavuo were faster. More riders are moving up to get into today's break.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0002.jpg

So we've got an 11 man breakaway group that's established itself. Now on an uncategorised section before the category 2 climb to come. The riders here are:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafaypcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Seboka
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Armirailpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Shirota
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Hubypcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Van Hautegem

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Langellotti

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0003.jpg

If pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Laas didn't score the points he wanted early he more than made up for it here. These 10 points will do him nicely. The peloton is around 7 minutes back at this point.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0004.jpg

With 100 km to go we check on the peloton. IESE is leading proceedings as expected. The riders have hit the very early slopes of the Guanella Pass. It's around 30 km of climbing, but only the last 10 km at 5.8% are categorised as part of the KOM.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0005.jpg

The breakaway are on the 'real' part of the climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Huby is the first that has to let go of the rope. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Rogora follows soon after.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0006.jpg

2 km from the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Van Hautegem, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Armirail and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Zegklis are the next riders struggling.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay looks like the strongest rider in this breakaway group and he ends up soloing to the top for maximum points. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Laas is 4th over the top so he'll keep his jersey for yet another day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Zegklis manages to reconnect with the other escapees, but now it's time for the HC category Loveland Pass (25.7 km, 4.1%). The peloton is 4 minutes behind and unless they take it somewhat easy it's hard to see how this group makes it over the top first.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0009.jpg

The peloton is not going fast and the breakaway is keeping hold of their advantage. Even pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Armirail is back at the front and doing a great job for his leader on the road. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Laas was just dropped and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Seboka follows suit shortly after.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Armirail has done his job and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay accelerated 3 km from the top. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Langellotti is the only that can follow for the time being.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay takes 20 points at the top of Loveland Pass which puts him in 2nd place, only 10 points off the lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0012.jpg

Back in the peloton IESE have exhausted their resources working at the front. Glanbia and McCormick are contributing now, but their group is 5 minutes behind the race leaders which means pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay is on his way to taking the race lead!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes feels he needs to gain some time today so he attacks before the top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Langellotti have a 2 minute gap over the other riders from the breakaway. As long as they don't cat and mouse too much they should decide the stage win between themselves.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes is busting a gut on the downhill, but McCormick have plenty of numbers at the front and are seemingly controlling this attack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay doesn't want to risk going to a sprint finish, he wants to drop his companion before that.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0017.jpg

Final kilometer. Both riders have slowed down, accepting it's going to be a sprint to the line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0018.jpg

In the end it's a comfortable win for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Victor Langellotti! Add another stage win to the Continental Tour teams! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay will be looking for the final gap to the peloton, if he's gotten yellow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes managed to reach the remnants of the breakaway in between, but he misses out on bonus seconds with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Armirail and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Kaislavuo finishing ahead of him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Novak lead the group of favourites across the finish line in 7th and 8th, but there is 27'' gap to the group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Meintjes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S10/PCM0021.jpg

Bianchi's awesome season continue at the Tour of America with a stage win from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Langellotti, but they did suffer a worse day with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Smith dropping in the GC. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay in the end didn't do enough for yellow, he jumped up to 4th with the top 3 remaining the same.
