Tour of America - Stage 4

Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/profile.png

The last pan flat stage of the race, but a longer one of over 200 km and depending on how things go it could be the last bunch sprint we see. There is one KOM sprint about 20 km from the finish, but it seems unlikely we see a change in those rankings after today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0001.jpg

We have all the already known names from this tour in the breakaway today:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Le Huitouze
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Royan (U25 leader)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Belevics
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Rogora (KOM leader)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Fraile

Like I mentioned, the KOM sprint is a long way off, but maybe a 5 man group can hold on for longer than normally.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Royan wins the 1st intermediate sprint which should give him a leg up on staying in white if he makes it to the finish in the winner's time. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Rogora takes 4 seconds and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Belevics 2 seconds, which means the latter cannot take the GC lead via intermediate sprints.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0003.jpg

We're at the halfway point of the stage. The five sprinter's teams are controlling the pace as always. The gap to the breakaway has just now fallen under 5 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0004.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Le Huitouze wins the 2nd intermediate sprint ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Fraile and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Rogora. The latter hopefully has saved up some energy for the KOM coming up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Belevics wins the KOM, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Rogora is 2nd which is enough for him to keep the jersey for another day. 26 km to go and the peloton still has some work to do to catch the break, the gap is now just under 2 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0006.jpg

The peloton seem to have everything under control with 18 km to go they seem ready to catch the last of the escapees.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0007.jpg

The catch was made with 8 km left, but all the sprint trains were already set up ahead of time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0008.jpg

3 km to go and I think this is the most organised that I've seen of all six trains so far, but who can actually deliver their sprinter into the best position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eve.png Kuroeda and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Coutinho blink first and launch their leadouts. Being the first out of the block has not worked though so far.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Marin is also on the front with Carsi in his wheel. The rider with the best positions directly after the leadouts is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lot.png Wouters following pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eve.png Adomaitis.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Kuroeda now surges forward with 800 m to go, but he doesn't have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Hayakawa quite on his wheel. In between them Conti is again doing an admirable job for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Gibbons.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Hayakawa making use of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Gibbons's wheel hits the front with 400 m left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0013.jpg

And that proves to be the winning move as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Hayakawa edges out pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Gibbons on the line. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Enger with no stage wins, but a 3rd straight podium finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/TOA/S4/PCM0014.jpg

As pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Tomohiro Hayakawa celebrates his stage win, a clean sweep of wins for the CT teams so far. The aforementioned pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Enger's consistency is not completely for naught as he does take over the race lead and will be in yellow tomorrow, but this is probably not how he imagined he'll finally wear it. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Carsi remains in green, same with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Rogora and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Royan as they keep their jerseys.
