The Race

Welcome to England where we see some (but not all) of the best cobblers of the world battling it out, including the first meeting of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Per and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Pedersen this season.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0001.jpg

There was huge interest in the break today, but after some late attackers are brought back a group of 15 is allowed to get away. These 15 are
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Bayer and Losch
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Ballerini
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Bdadou

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0002.jpg

With 133 km to go the gap is down under 4 minutes again after maxing near to 5 minutes. There’s probably still some time left until the real action begins.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0003.jpg

The gap is down another minute with 96 km to go. There’s not much happening apart from the occasional puncture. This time it’s pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Brockhoffs turn.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0004.jpg

The German actually wasn’t able to make it back to the front and is back in the peloton as is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Losch who suffered a similar fade. The chase is also taking its toll in the peloton which is down to 116 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0005.jpg

The break is over with about 60 km to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Mengoulas used this to attack. Probably more importantly there are further splits in the peloton. Among others pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Kamyshev and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lot.png Daniel are in the first chasing group while the first big group is down to 27 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0006.jpg

The Greek is brought back right before the last bigger climb. Those dropped earlier are still trying to get back to the front while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Garcia Cortina adds another puncture for his team. Maybe a new wheels supplier is on the menu there?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0007.jpg

And only some km later the leading group is down to 15 riders. Among those dropped are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Stallaert and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Siric.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0008.jpg

But the latter was only badly positioned and easily bridged across in the climb. At the top the leading group is down to 12 riders. Those 12 are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Pedersen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Per, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Senechal, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Siric, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Neilands, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ubs.png Jacobs, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Ovsyannikov, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Gaday, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/trg.png Polanc and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Mengoulas.
With 37 km to go it seems like the winner will be in this group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Ferreira, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sfi.png Owen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sfi.png Rossi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Barthe made it back in the descent.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Per was the first favourite to attack, but the counter attack from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Pedersen actually gets a gap. But with 20 km to go it’s nothing decisive yet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Pedersen has a gap of 17’’ after the third to last climb. There are 10 chasers left after those four who came back earlier were dropped again and were joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Neilands.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0012.jpg

And the gap is further increasing! With 12 km to go it’s up to 41’’ and the 10 chasers seem to be hesitating. Everyone else is already more than 1’30 behind this group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0013.jpg

When entering the penultimate climb the Dane has a lead of 1’16. He should have this one in the bag.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0014.jpg

When the gap arrived at 2 minutes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/trg.png Polanc decided he could go faster on his own and attacked. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Senechal is trying to follow him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0015.jpg

The two don’t get away, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Mengoulas are dropped as a result.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0016.jpg

At the front pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Pedersen arrives at the finish line unimpressed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0017.jpg

The chasers weren’t even able to sprint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Per takes 2nd place by just dropping the others from the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ubs.png Jacobs takes the last podium spot in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Gaday and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Senechal. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Ovsyannikov and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Siric finish in 6th and 7th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0019.jpg

Behind them pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/trg.png Polanc beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen for 8th place. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tir.png Mengoulas takes a surprising 10th place with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot in 11th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PTHC/Cheshire/PCM0020.jpg

Congratulations to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Pedersen who could never been brought back once he had a small gap!
