Stage 1

Welcome to Western Venezuela where the CT has its longest stage race of the season, the Vuelta al Tachira. Neither the top climbers nor the top sprinters of the division are at the start, so we can hope for an open and interesting race in the coming nine days. The race itself pretty much consists of two seperate parts: four sprint stages (and a hilly one) for the beginning followed by four mountain stages (including a MTT). This also means the fast men will dominate not only the next days, but also today.

We donâ€™t even have a KoM sprint in the first stage, but thereâ€™s some interest in the break nonetheless. Maybe there are some riders who know too well the break took the first stage last year. It seems the peloton knows this, too, as it still chases the first three attackers 20 km into the race and only 5 km to the first of two intermediate sprints.
