The Race

Welcome to Russia for another hilly classic for the CT. With the rather hard profile and an uphill finish it’s no surprise that the best puncheurs of the division are the favourites today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0001.jpg

We have a rather big break of 17 riders:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Preidler, Schleck and Segaert
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Donze, Luehrs and Mathis
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Del Grosso and Uijtdebroeks
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Buttigieg and De Paula
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Nesset and Traeen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Arashiro
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Buck-Gramcko
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Frame
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Talacka
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Wallenborn

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0002.jpg

The 17 got a maximum gap of about 6 minutes. Halfway through the race it’s down to 3’14.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0003.jpg

After the fourth last climb the break is down to 12 riders. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Uijtdebroeks, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Luehrs, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Segaert and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png De Paula are those who’ve been dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0004.jpg

At the next climb pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Preidler and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Donze are the next riders dropped from the break.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0005.jpg

At the same climb we see the first attacks from the peloton. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Senyenov is alone with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kmm.png Masnada, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Kanepejs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Hermans as his first chasers. There are no major gaps yet, but we get a first idea who feels good today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0006.jpg

At the foot of the penultimate climb the break and all attackers are caught. With 29 km to go a peloton of 89 is still together.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0007.jpg

There haven’t been any attacks in the climb, so it’ll probably all come down to the final climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Van Tricht tries his luck in the flat and has a 28’’ gap to the peloton with 9 km to go. The peloton itself is heavily reduced to 36 riders with quite some second-tier puncheurs already dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0009.jpg

The leader enters the final climb to the finish with a 40’’ gap. That probably won’t be enough once the favourites start to push.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Van Tricht is caught with 2.5 km to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco leads the favourites with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Turgis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Luchshenko, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Eriksson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Sagan on his wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0011.jpg

With 1.5 km to go a group of 11 is at the front. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Luchshenko leads the group and is in a great position, especially if he can use his sprint advantage in the flat final km. With him are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Paez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Sagan, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Turgis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Eriksson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Dulanjana and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Vincent. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Vogt and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Helme are a bit behind the others.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo launches the sprint with 800 m to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco has fallen behind, so a group of 10 is fighting for the win.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0013.jpg

The Italian is still in front with 300 m to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek is right on his wheel. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Luchshenko and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Turgis are their closest chasers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0014.jpg

And pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo takes the win! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek comes in 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0015.jpg

Behind them pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Eriksson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Paez for 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Luchshenko falls down to 6th in the end. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ipc.png Dulanjana beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Turgis for 7th just on the line. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Vincent and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Sagan complete the top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/Yekaterinburg/PCM0017.jpg

Congratulations to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo who takes a great win for his new found team!
