The Race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Profiles/mg_grandduche.jpg

For some reason I am not able to remove the small circle from my screenshots, so you just have to live with them...

Time for the puncheurs to shine once again here in Luxembourg and while there are many strong riders present there is no suprise that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz winning the two last editions, world champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez and last years second pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya are the biggest favorites. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez won the race back in 2020 and is together with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz the only former winner present. Last year he was third after finishing second in 2023. Maybe this is the year to take back the crown? Home team EA Vesuvio sends a strong team, lead by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric who also deserves to be mentioned. Other than that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita could be able to bring a strong result for Los Pollos Hermanos, and Aker decides to send pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Valter as their bet in this race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/Favoritter.jpg

The race has barely been able to start before the first attack comes and soon we have the break of the day with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Salzmann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Jansen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Van Hooydonck, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Cannister, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ino.png Klahan and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Pickrell.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0001.jpg

They quickly get a big gap, maxing out at 08:30 with 150 km to go

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0002.jpg

Aker with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Kalf, Rabobank with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Bolor-Erdene and Los Pollos Hermanos with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Halvorsen leading the pack into the first uphill section. Still 06:45 behind the break and we got some light rain. All the favorites well placed in the peloton

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0003.jpg

With 110 km to go Puma-SAP has decided to take control of the pack and upping the pace with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Rutsch and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Zahiri doing the main work. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz well placed in 9th position with world champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez and all the other favorites close by.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0005.jpg

With 57 km left a Puma-SAP lead peloton catches the break. It's time for the real race to begin! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Albanese, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Antonijevic, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Welsford, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sfi.png Holm Jorgensen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/fas.png Van der Hoorn the only riders having been left behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0006.jpg

7 km later, at exactly 50 km to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Bagioli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Gloag fancies their chanses and attacks. They quickly get a lead of 40 seconds, could they be able to surprise the big favorites with this attack?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0007.jpg

Alas, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Zimmermann takes the lead and brings them back again

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0008.jpg

With 35 km left the fun begins, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric jets out of the group followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Soulious, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Soulious the big suprise here, is he supposed to be mentioned together with the others? Maybe he got some secret powers I didn't forsee?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0009.jpg

More riders believe this could be the decisive moment and tries to follow. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/grm.png Ssabagwanya and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Nikiema digs deep

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0010.jpg

But all the manage to do is bring it all together with 31 km to go. Several riders have used a lot of power just for it all to be for naught. We enter the last 20 km with all the favorites together in a 59 man strong peloton. Who will have the legs to break the others at the end?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0011.jpg

Could it be pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita? He obviously has had some kind of plan going into the race being hidden til now, but as they go under the 20 km left banner he goes on a strong attack!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0012.jpg

This could be decisive! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Champoussin, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric takes the lead of the group and we get a split! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png De Plus is on the right side of the split, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Valter, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ubs.png Buchmann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Skujins, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Schmid and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Schlegel seems to be on the wrong side of the split!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0013.jpg

They do manage to bridge up however, and with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita up the road we have a group of 19 riders chaseing him with all the big guns present. Afraid of being on the wrong side of another split pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Schmid takes lead of the group. This might be good news for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita as he is not the strongest rider present

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric might be of the same opinion and takes over the chase and as we go under the 10 km left banner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita got 45 seconds on the big group. This could be down to the wire for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita if the group can work together to catch him

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0015.jpg

But maybe they can't work together? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita looks really strong and races down the last downhill section. He has extended his lead to 1m20sec and we can barely see the chasers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0016.jpg

Entering the last 2,5 km uphill the lead is still 1m15sec

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png De Plus Leads the group when they enter the uphill, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Schmid and then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Champoussin. Catching the leader looks hard, this might be a battle for second

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0018.jpg

With 1 km left for the group they are fighting hard for it on the uphill. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya and the WC pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez. This fight will be down to the last meters!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0019.jpg

But noone can beat pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita today! He attacked at the right moment and proved to be the strongest rider. What a victory for Los Pollos Hermanos today!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pum.png Herklotz has taken the lead in the fight for second place with a very tight fight behind him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0022.jpg

And after winning the last 2 editions of the race he takes second this time around, but who will be third? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Champoussin are right beside eachother followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Schmid and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png De Plus not strong enough to stay with them on the last meters

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/rab.png Champoussin takes a great third place for a Rabobank team predicted in the relegation fight by many this year! Great result for him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/xr0.png Areruya 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/evo.png Lopez 5th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa 6th. Some manager might have hoped for better results, but they gave all they had

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0025.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Schmid with a good ride to take 7th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Mohoric who has been energetic and aggressive today, just lacked the right timing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0026.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lpu.png De Plus who lead the group into the last hill takes 9th. A strong result from him. He looked strong but couldn't keep up at the end

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0027.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Skujins just beating pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Valter for 10th with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ced.png Schlegel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ubs.png Buchmann and one trick pony pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png McCarthy getting a good result.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/PT/GrandDuche/PCM0028.jpg

Congratulations to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/lph.png Higuita, clearly the strongest today! Deserved victory for the Colombian! I predicted them 21st and relegating, but this is just the kind of results they need to prove me wrong
