split tyres

Classics Specialist Posts: 3386 Joined: 03-01-2008 PCM$: 1348.00	had a busy couple of days technically speaking as i've gotten my Bianchi from of the top of my wardrobe and set it up ready to start training on it in prep for my first races. this involved swapping various wheels, tyres and cassettes from my 9 speed turbo bike and winter trainer and my 10 speed racer. in the process i noticed a couple a small splits and holes in a couple of the tyres. is there any way of reparing these splits or should i just bin them and get new tyres? cheers

Team Leader Posts: 6490 Joined: 13-10-2007 PCM$: 200.00	I always get new tires prior to racing (and new bar tape, new chain, once every 2 years new casette and chain rings). Just because I can then use better tires rather than my naff training ones. I would personally recommend getting new tires, especially if the tires have been sat in a the warm indoors for a few months. They will be weaker I believe - dry and brittle. Team Leader Posts: 6727 Joined: 06-10-2007 PCM$: 200.00	New tyres, anything like that dramatically enhances your chance of getting a flat. If the tyres are old its most likely dry rot, otherwise its from heavy use
