San Marino might be the best represented nation in the mangame peloton on a per capita basis. 12 pros will contest the national title and you know every one of them will want to be in the break which could be interesting since the course is flat and both the best sprinters ( Olei and Aquilani) ride for the same team.
In the end only 3 amateurs are allowed in the break and Sauber works hard to shut that down with 22k to go.
Sauber and Gazelle set a hard pace on the front and with 4k to go it is Maccagli, Menicucci, Rossi, and Giulietti on the front. Olei behind them.
Sauber seem to be going with a traditional lead out as Maccagi drops off with 1.8k to go. Aquilani has moved up next to Olei.
Just before 1k Rossi moves to the front next to Menicucci. Giulietti and Aquilani next. Then Noia next to Olei and then Antonelli.
400k, Aquilani just about even with Rossi. Giulietti and Olei next.
Rossi fades and Aquilani can celebrate. He adds a road race title to the TT jersey he won last year.
Olei is 2nd giving Benetton a 1-2. Giulietti is 3rd. Sauber takes 5th through 11th but miss out on the important spots, probably not the right strategy from them today.

Time Trial
Sauber couldn’t get it done in the road race but they have 4 of the top 5 favorites for the TT with Noia the best on paper.
Noia last man on the course. The time to beat was set by his teammate, Maccagli, 1’00’40.
