Carthy, Geoghegan Hart, and Adam Yates are the favorites for this year’s British national championship, which takes place in the mountains. Adam Yates has never worn this jersey; this might be his last chance.
Some hard riding on the first climb weeds out all the amateurs and a 14-rider lead group begins the descent. 5 here for cycleYorkshire including their leader Williams. Two for Trans, everyone else is solo.
The group grows to 22 on the descent, still all pros.
cycleYorkshire controls the tempo until Pidcock attacks with just over 11k to go.
Adam Yates bridges up to Pidcock and with 8.6k to go they have 33 seconds.
With 7k to go Hayter and Simon Yates bring the attackers back.
Carthy attacks with just over 5k to follow the other favorites all follow.
Cathy’s attack pulls 7 riders clear (A. Yates, Williams, Carthy, Pidcock, Geoghegan Hart, Knox and Donovan). Just as Kennaugh bridges up to make it 8, Adam Yates, Pidcock and Williams attack.
Pidcock is dropped by the other two but with 2.7k to go, Carthy and Geoghegan Hart bridge up to make it a 4-man lead group.
1k banner, all 4 seem to be on the limit.
500 meters, it is down to Carthy versus Yates.
But Yates was the hungrier rider today and one last dig gets him enough gap to secure his first British Road Race title. Carthy is 2nd.
Williams is 3rd.

Time Trial
Geoghegan Hart and Hayter are the favorites for the TT title. It would be a 3rd straight for Hayter and 6th straight for cycleYorkshire if Hayter can win. The other contender is Vernon
The 3 favorites are the last 3 to go. Vernon sets a new best time of 1 hour 36 seconds.
Hayter goes 15 seconds faster. He was tied with Geoghegan Hart at the last time check.
They are still tied on time at the finish.
But on the fractions Geoghegan Hart wins the TT title.
