The penultimate stage is a medium ITT. There are only a handful of specialists at the start, so there are some GC riders among the favourites. But keep in mind there’s a big mountain stage still coming to finish the race tomorrow.
Cheyne sets the first bar in 23’51.
Jussaume is right behind him on the road and the young Canadian is a second faster at the intermediate point. He keeps this small lead at the finish, setting a new best time of 23’49.
Price-Pejtersen matches the best intermediate time. He’s a bit faster in the second part and beats the best time by a mere second: 23’48.
Christian also matches the best intermediate time. So he does at the finish. He’s ranked second for now.
Marryatt is one of the stage favourites. He is already 9 seconds faster at the split and sets a clear best time at the finish in 23’19.
Politt is another favourite. He beats the best intermediate time by 2 seconds and is the new leader in 23’14.
Daniel is the last specialist on the course. He beats the German at the split by a second and doubles this lead at the finish: 23’12.
Cabrera is the next interesting rider. He’s the fastest at the split and also at the finish: 23’07.
With Dulanjana we’re already in the top 20 of the GC. He’s only 3 seconds down at the split and is 5th for now at the finish, being 11’’ down in the end.
We jump to the GC top 10 with Verschaeve. He loses 45’’ in the end.
Lemus Davila is a bit faster, he’s 36’’down.
Borisavljevic is even faster, he slots in 6th at the moment, 16’’ behind the lead.
Lunke is 2’’ faster and takes the 6th place for now.
Min loses 1’28 and his 6th place in the GC.
Misbah is the fastest of the GC riders for now only 9’’ behind the best time.
Quintana loses exact a minute today and drops to 5th in the GC.
Giannoutsos loses 31’’. Will that be fast enough to gain a place in the GC?
It is! Sosa loses 1’09 and falls behind the Greek!
Elosegui finishes 9th and gains a couple of seconds on the Greek on top.
Congratulations to Cabrera and his team for a stage 1-2!
