Milano-Torino goes back to 2008, and after a 1-year hiatus in 2009, it has been run every year since. This year it is once again paired with GP Lugano, both races are punchy but this one hits harder. Overall, it is 192km with the last 80k or so being almost continuous jagged climbs.
Recently it has been the playground of the hybrids with the hybridy-est of them all, Areruya, winning last year. Other recent winners include Beltran (twice, plus 2nd last year), Kwiatkowski and Kelderman.
Beltran is back but isn’t quite what he used to be. The other returning winner is Kinoshita who won back in 2018 and has been in the top 5 on 5 other occaisons. Generally, the favorites can be broken between the more traditional puncheurs and the hybrids.
Kinoshita leads the first group. All of these except Yates (who is probably here to support Beltran) are decent in the mountains, and if the race isn’t too hard, they will be strong at the finish. Stannard is probably the best all-round rider in the group and is due for a great result after a season of mixed fortunes. The most famous rider in the race is Sagan, who is looking for his 2nd top 30 in the race, with the only prior one coming at the other end of his career, back in 2012, when he finished 16th.
| Rider | FL | MT | HI | SP | AC | RS | Kinoshita | 72 | 71 | 82 | 67 | 76 | 76 | Stannard | 73 | 73 | 81 | 69 | 78 | 76 | Sagan | 70 | 72 | 81 | 71 | 73 | 71 | Vakoc | 71 | 71 | 81 | 71 | 74 | 71 | Dyrnes | 68 | 72 | 78 | 65 | 77 | 73 | Yates | 71 | 65 | 78 | 62 | 69 | 74 |
The top hybrids include:
| Rider | FL | MT | HI | SP | AC | RS | Buchmann | 71 | 76 | 81 | 65 | 73 | 74 | Benoot | 71 | 75 | 81 | 69 | 71 | 74 | Van Niekerk | 69 | 75 | 80 | 64 | 74 | 75 | De Plus | 72 | 77 | 79 | 61 | 72 | 73 | Sosa | 67 | 79 | 78 | 59 | 74 | 79 | Beltran | 66 | 76 | 78 | 63 | 71 | 67 | Paret-Peintre | 72 | 76 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 75 | Lopez | 66 | 78 | 76 | 60 | 78 | 72 | Roson | 67 | 78 | 76 | 54 | 74 | 70 | Masnada | 71 | 77 | 76 | 63 | 73 | 75 | Gall | 67 | 77 | 76 | 61 | 72 | 71 | Henao | 65 | 76 | 76 | 63 | 70 | 73 |
This list is much longer although mainly because the top 3, Buchmann, Benoot, and Van Niekerk could be classified in the other group. And these three might be the favorites for the race because they are all decisively stronger in the hills than the rest of the hybrids but also very capable of surviving the accumulated climbing. The fear for these three is that if a larger group comes to the finish, they can’t match the likes of Stannard and Kinoshita in acceleration.
The rest of this group fit more into the true hybrid category with Paret-Peintre and Lopez standing out for their ability to finish. De Plus has prior form in this race, finishing 2nd in 2021.

Beltran may be older but I back him nah but a top 5-10 finish is the goal here. I’d love to see Yates get a decent finish as well. Get a couple of people in the points but will be tough. Definitely more of a hybrid race this one.
Good luck everyone and thanks for the preview!

All hopes on Vakoc! Tough competition but top-10 is definitely a goal.
Thanks UU for the preview!

This has historically been a good race for us with Benoot even winning in 2022. We're hoping for a Top 5 at minimum but a Podium would be ideal.
Thanks for the preview

A race where Kinoshita is good historically, so I'm expecting great things.

Thanks for the preview, Ulrich! If APP is able to finish in the top 10 this would be a good race for us.

Meurisse is at the other race, hoping I didn't gamle incorrectly.
Thanks for the preview, feeling a Buchman win in this one!

No ambition whatsoever here. Best case would be Velasco or Blouwe hanging on to some depth points, probably from a breakaway. We'll see. Good luck everyone actually competing!

2nd goal race of the season. Kickstarting Stannard's late surge for our relegation battle. Hopefully it goes more like Strade Bianche and less like Badaling or Wallonie. The field is packed so not sure if were not going to regret no sending him to Lugano though.
Thanks for the preview UU!

I think Beltran might contest that point.
Second one day race for Sosa, wanted to see how he faired in a classic, hopefully it is better than Hallstat.

My guy Beltran so close to a top 10 again, though the riders ahead of him make total sense.

Can’t complain with 20th, but it is sad to have 5 riders in top 50, and then Only getting away with 6 points in total. These one day races isn’t made for depth :-)

Not the race we hoped for. Only good thing is to see Lierse winning again What a streak!

Great tactic to burn yourself out before the final climb No chance for Kinoshita in the sprint then.
Congrats Ollfardh!
