Today every rider has to climb on it’s own, it’s MTT time! The big question will be if the TT skills will have any influence too.
TT skills apparently are important for the first part of the stage as many TTers are able to punch above their (climbing) weight. The first rider who is decent in both disciplines is Keizer who sets a time of 36’26 as a first bar.
Andriafenomananiaina sets a new best time in 35’41.
There are no real improvements before the GC favourites are on the road, so we jump directly into the top 20. Pinot is the first of this group. He’s 1’55 behind the current leader Rachid who set a time of 35’32.
Van Gils loses 2’13.
Lopez is 2’24 slower than the Libanese.
Vasyliv does much better, he’s only 19’’ behind the lead.
Penasa is some seconds slower, he’s 26’’ down.
Padun is the best climber on paper. He’s on the same time as the Italian in front of him though.
Arensman is the new leader! His time is 35’20.
Iturria is provisional 5th, he loses 31’’.
Quintana does a bit better, he’s 28’’ down.
Tenorio takes the lead by quite some margin. His time is 34’38.
Schlegel is the first top 10 rider on the road. He probably won’t be tomorrow as he loses 2’07.
Ranaweera beats the best time be a mere second.
Rodrigues is third for now, 8’’ behind the lead.
Bennett loses 2’02 today.
Jorgenson is 6’’ slower than the best time.
Barguil is 1’08 down.
Godoy loses 1’19 today.
Olivier is the first rider within striking distance for the GC lead. He loses 56’’.
Reis is much faster. He sets a new best time in 34’29,
Oomen is 4th of the day. He loses 14’’ and the GC lead today.
Congratulations to Reis for the stage win and the GC lead! That’s also the only leader change.
