The Race

The favourites for this race are a mix of sprinters and rouleurs.

This could be a dangerous situation for the sprinter teams as the break is not just big, there are also multiple teams with multiple riders in it, so it’s even more surprising there wasn’t much of a fight to keep the break small.

With 100 km to go the gap is at 3 minutes after maxing at 5 minutes.

50 km later the gap is down to 1’30. In the chase there have been some short-lived splits each round at the top of the hill. This could be a decisive moment in the last lap.

With 25 km to go the gap is still decreasing and is now at 45’’. But there seemed to be some moments of hesitation in the peloton already – and some more splits, though none of them lasted. It’s two laps to go.
