We enter the final three mountain stages today. No surprises among the organizer’s favourites.

There weren’t any attacks in the initial descent, but when the riders entered the first climb some riders tried to get away. We’ll have a closer look at them once the situation has settled down a bit. The gap is pretty much the same when the break enters the second climb of the day (Col des Saisies; cat. 1; 14.0 km at 5.0 %).

In the looong descent the gap is reduced by one and a half minutes. There’s no contest at the sprint. The break has 20 km to the foot of the final double climb.

25 km to go and the break is nearly in the penultimate climb (Côte de Montagny; cat. 1; 8.0 km at 7.0 %). Their gap is down to 2 minutes.

The eight other leaders arrive at the top together. The situation ist he same when the leaders enter the final climb (Courchevel – Le Praz; cat. 1; 6.0 km at 6.9 %). 1.5 km into the climb the gap is actually increasing. With some good climbers in the break they’re really in contention for the stage win!

Or aren’t they? Once pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/bbc.png Reis and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/yor.png Morton attack the gap is halfed in no time. Those two are 1’18 behind the break and 19’’ in front of the peloton. The leaders have 2.5 km to go.

Only 800 m later the break is caught as well as the two attackers. A group of 88 is now the front of the race.
