Vuelta a Colombia

Stage 6

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/01.jpg

Another Mountain Top Finish, Another day with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier as our top favorite!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/02.jpg

Another huge breakaway today with no one within the top 10 getting away. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mcy.png Chumil, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Carretero Millan, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kmm.png Gall, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Bouchard, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/spr.png Natarov, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Januskevicius, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Canty, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Tenorio, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eko.png Pinot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila,pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Buitrago, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/p4e.png Sergis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Tolhoek, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Donovan, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mcy.png Mendoza will face the day from the breakaway. Evonik – ELKO holds the gap around 3:00 after yesterday stopped pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier’s chance for stepping atop the stage podium.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/03.jpg

The first intermediate spring of the day comes with 80km left in the stage. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Januskevicius leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eko.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Bouchard across the line for the points and a few seconds. The gap is now 4:30 to the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/04.jpg

The climbs today get more and more challenging – so we start with a 2nd category. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis have the most potential to move up the rankings with good placements.pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Buitrago is the one who gets across first though ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis takes 3rd with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Tenorio and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eko.png Pinot the final point scorers. The breakaway now has 6:30 over the peloton and maybe this will be another breakaway victory -63km to go. Evonik – ELKO allows it all the way up 8:40 before they start descending off that climb. This would bring pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila into 2nd if the race stopped here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/05.jpg

That signals pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Sureda to push the pace on this flat section heading into the 2nd intermediate sprint and the gap does start to descend. Back to 7:45, that is surely enough buffer for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier to not lose 2 further minutes.
At the intermediate point, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Donovan takes the points over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kmm.png Gall and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/p4e.png Sergis. 39km to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/06.jpg

The penultimate climb of this Vuelta a Colombia is taken bypcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Buitrago followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Donovan, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kmm.png Gall, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/spr.png Natarov, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Bouchard, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eko.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/p4e.png Sergis. Pretty much everyone is still together and with a 7:00 gap over the peloton. Evonik – ELKO remains at the front holding it down without support.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/07.jpg

Our final climb is 13km and 10% with pitches upwards of 19%. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/p4e.png Sergis thus, decides that the best place to attack is from the second slopes start trending upward and takes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Bouchard with him. The rest of the break is quick to respond by simply managing the distance.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/08.jpg

Just under the 10km banner, the breakaway is down to 6 due to an attack from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Bouchard. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila is on this one with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kmm.png Gall,pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Buitrago and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Tenorio. They will be ready to fight this out to the top. No one else from the break should be able to fight.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Champoussin attacks the back group at the exact same place and the main field is down to 31 riders – mostly big guns. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Arifin is the best placed rider dropped in 17th but that was from breakaway expeditions.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/10.jpg

With 7.5km to go, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila has ridden the rest of the breakaway off the rails and has a gap now to everyone. Closest is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis who seems very much in control only 24 seconds back. The rest of the breakaway is in shambles and looks cooked from the steep gradients.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/11.jpg

Let’s jump back to the favorites again where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney wants his chance at glory. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier has to do this response on his own as he’s out of domestiques. This attack sticks and causes riders to fall of the back as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Johannessen the biggest name to fall back here – unable to follow the pace. Only 18 in the group now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/12.jpg

4km to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila has a massive gap on pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis now at 90 seconds. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Tenorio another 38 behind that and then 1s and 2s of the remaining breakaway riders. With GC action launching behind, we’ll simply return to see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila hit the finish and take the stage.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier and the two Americans distance the rest of the GC riders under the 5km to go flag and they’re flying by breakaway riders. The yellow jersey is marching to his own pace and it is unsatiable. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Latour is the best of the rest trying to pace his effort up the climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier has distanced all of his competitors now with about 2.5km left to go for him and 1.5km left for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila in the distance. The Frenchman should be able to claim at least 3rd on the stage as well and maybe 2nd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney is still the best of the rest on GC though as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Dombrowski has also hit his limit. Everyone else is strewn across the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila manages to find the flat ground at the top of the climb and takes the victory! What a set of stages for the young Colombian. Not the full result here in Colombia he would’ve hoped for, but he could easily move into the top 10 today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis holds on for the 2nd place! GC points aren’t in the cards for the Lithuanian, but KOM points could put him in a top 5 position at the end of the day there.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/17.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier sprints to 3rd after catching pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Tenorio who holds on for 4th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier confirms he’s the best (did it need confirming?) and we’ll wait until the full results to see just how much ground he gapped the field on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Carretero Millan is a huge surprise 5th place finisher from the breakaway. Great day for MOL. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney in 6th with a decent gap over the rest.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eko.png Pinot nabs 7th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Dombrowski. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Bouchard 9th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kmm.png Gall 10th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Latour is 11th alone behind this group – with the remaining GC men coming in groups of 3 or 4 behind them. Prepare for the GC shuffle to come.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/20.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila takes the stage win! 2:00 exactly ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/zal.png Lasinis for a fantastic breakaway. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Ardila also returns to the stage for a white jersey presentation

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/21.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier takes a fantastic GC ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Phinney who just nabs pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Dombrowski for 2nd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Lecuisinier will return to the stage for the Points classification.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/22.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ino.png Arifin is the clear best KOM rider after massive breakaways.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S6/23.jpg

Gazelle was a beacon of consistency in the Team classification.
