Today’s stage is one for the puncheurs and so think the organizers too.

Only two riders in the break today with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Tjotta and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Stojnic. That’s not surprising given the only KoM sprint is 10 km from the finish.

There has been no interest for the first intermediate sprint in the break, but the sprinters use this opportunity to stretch their legs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Van der Lijke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Manninen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kng.png Hsu take some points there. The gap is only 1’32 as a result.

We skip 90 km and see a pretty similar picture at the second intermediate sprint. This time pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Dainese, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Manninen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kng.png Hsu take the minor points. The break is already in sight though and the final climb is only 15 km away, so we’re slowly heading to the crucial part of the stage.

When heading into the final climb pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Trakhov immediately attacks and should put an end to the break as well.

The Russian gets a gap and is quickly joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Novak and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/trg.png Demare. It’s quite a way to go though and the peloton is chasing, so the gap of 21’’ won’t be enough.

The three make it to the plateau in the climb and still have 30’’ to the peloton. So pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/yor.png Romo tries to bridge across on his own. It’s still 5 km to the KoM sprint which follows after a short bump. The final 10 km go downhill and play in the cards of attackers.

With 1 km to climb the peloton has made contact to the attackers, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Trakhov still insists on keeping a gap.

He wins the KoM points and now has 18. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Novak is the only one with him and is also on 18 points now. We’ll see who’ll wear the jersey tomorrow.

Over the top those two have a gap of 40’’ to a chasing group of 58, including some of the fast men.

With 5 km to go the gap is down to 9’’. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mos.png Gaviria himself leads the chasers, but with a rather steep descent right until the line that could actually be an advantage.

And with 3 km to go we have a group of 32 in the lead. In the end they decided to get boxed in around 10th place when pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mos.png Gaviria launches his sprint under the red kite.
