Stage 2 should again be one for the sprinters, though there’s a late cat. 3 climb and a 12 km descent to the finish to mess up the sprint preparation.

Today it’s another break of three riders, two of them were also on duty yesterday with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Frigo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Zana. They’re joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/trg.png Holm Jorgensen, making it two jersey wearers in the break.

At the first intermediate sprint pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/lot.png Zana takes the win in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Frigo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/trg.png Holm Jorgensen. Their gap is at 3’19 with 92 km to go.

The peloton is only 1’45 behind the two leaders and – more importantly – is down to 106 riders at the moment. The break is caught with 27 km to go. The splits are also undone, so a complete peloton heads into the only categorized climb of the day.

The climb itself is long and flat (2.4 % average), so the usual sprint domestiques are in the front nonetheless. The leadout itself will be special as the descent after the KoM sprint goes all the way to the finish line. Or will someone try to attack over the top of the climb?
