Stage 10


Today’s stage is rated hilly, but it also features the first real mountain of the race and should be a good warm-up for the big mountain stage tomorrow.

The break passes the first intermediate sprint and now has 85 km to ride. They’re nearly at the top of the seconded uncategorized climb and only have the first cat. 2 climb of this year’s Giro and the short climb to the finish ahead, though their gap is already under 2 minutes.

And finally the break enters the first slopes of the first proper climb (i.e. cat. 2 or higher) of the race (Bocca della Selva; cat. 2; 18.8 km at 4.8%). The peloton still only trails by 1’53, so probably the break won’t even contest the points at the top.

The three riders in front actually came back together in the long descent and are still leading at the second intermediate sprint, 7 km from the finish. The peloton is only 31’’ behind though.
