[PTM] Giro d‘Italia -- Stage 5


Today’s stage is rated hilly by the organizers and so they chose their favourites. But looking at the profile it doesn’t seem impossible we’ll see a bunch sprint or the break taking the stage.

The break is rather quickly established today. We skip the next 100 km of flat roads until the break rolls through the first intermediate sprint. They still have 73 km to ride, but the peloton has already reduced the gap from a maximum of about 5 minutes to 3 minutes at the moment.

The peloton has a gap of 1’41 to the leader.

We have a new race situation in the last classified climb after a pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Rabobank train of 4 riders (including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Formolo) got away from the peloton. They quickly bridged to the break and are now about a minute in front of the pack.

The KoM points go to the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Rabobank domestiques, but those look already rather done. The peloton has closed down the gap to 36’’.

And the move is over with 27 km to go. There’s still an uncategorized climb coming, but the peloton still consists of 165 riders. Will it be another sprint today?
