The Race

It’s the second monument of the season! The organizer’s favourites are the usual suspects.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0001.jpg

Today’s break consists of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Lauk, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Kung, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Räim, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mos.png Nommela, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Dversnes and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Godon. The Estonians are quite keen on the cobbles breaks this season.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0002.jpg

With 187 km to go the first three cobbled sectors are done. The break has a gap of 5’36 but it’s already declining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0003.jpg

Meanwhile pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Hofer is already dropped from the peloton. He’ll have a lot of time to admire the beauty of Flanders today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0004.jpg

About halfway through the race the break’s gap is down to 3’33.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0005.jpg

With 80 km to go the decisive part of the race is on its way. The gap still has a gap of 2’38 and there have been no long range attacks so far, but it’s all about wear and tear at the moment.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0006.jpg

The break is caught with 59 km to go. The peloton is down to 39 riders now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0007.jpg

Shortly afterwards we have the first long range attack: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/trg.png Ovsyannikov, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Polanc, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/xr0.png Vermeersch and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ldl.png Vermeersch already have a gap of 56’’.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0008.jpg

With 40 km to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Polanc has dropped his companions and is now solo. 46’’ behind are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/trg.png Ovsyannikov and the older pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ldl.png Vermeersch. The peloton trails by another 30’’. It’s back to 52 riders with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Sulimov the biggest name not there.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0009.jpg

5 km later pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Polanc’ gap is up to 1’48. The first chasing group is down to 21 riders with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Kamyshev the next bigger name dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0010.jpg

With 26 km to go the gap is slowly decreasing, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/cdb.png Per has enough anyway and attacks in the Oude Kruisberg!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0011.jpg

With 16 km to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/cdb.png Per has made it to the front. The two Slovenians enter the Oude Kwaremont with a gap of only 13’’ to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Gerts and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Pedersen though. Then it’s 8 seconds to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Wisniowski and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kng.png Tiller and another 9’’ to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Anderberg and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Van Hooydonck. The next bigger group follows another 16’’ behind with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Senechal, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Theuns, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Siric, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Altur, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Ferreira, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Spengler.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0012.jpg

A group of 6 enters the final 13 flat km: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Pedersen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Wisniowski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/cdb.png Per, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kng.png Tiller, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Gerts and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Anderberg. They quickly gain a minute on the first chasers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0013.jpg

There have been no further attacks on the last cobbled sector. Will it come down to a sprint or will one rider still try something?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Wisniowski tries an attack but is quickly shut down by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Pedersen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/cdb.png Per.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0015.jpg

With 2 km to go and no further attacks it’s clear we’ll get a sprint of 6 for the win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Pedersen leads the group as the clear favourite if it comes down to the sprint abilities, but with more than 250 km raced that’s not all that counts.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0016.jpg

The sprint is on! With 500 m to the line pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Pedersen leads with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Wisniowski at his side. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/cdb.png Per seems to be the only other rider still in contention.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0017.jpg

And the Dane takes the win! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/aab.png Wisniowski and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/cdb.png Per complete the podium indeed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/rab.png Gerts comes in 4th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/akm.png Anderberg edges out pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/kng.png Tiller for 5th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/ced.png Siric wins the “sprint” for 7th against pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/fas.png Van Hooydonck, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/tti.png Senechal and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/mol.png Altur.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/gzl.png Teunissen leads the next group over the line for 11th. With him are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/evo.png Polanc after his great attack and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/jur.png Theuns. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/pol.png Ferreira and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/eav.png Spengler come in 14th and 15th a bit later.
It will be a while before the last riders reach the finish, but we’ll leave the broadcast for now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/PT/Ronde/PCM0021.jpg

Congratulations to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/grm.png Pedersen for finally taking the big win!
