Tour Down Under - Stage 6
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1188.jpg

The final stage is the chance for some riders to at least get something from this race. In especially looking at Ahlstrand and Demare here stage wise.
Though it`s even more interesting than that. The GC is within seconds and so we might see a bit of movement here as in especially Lagane at +13 or Demare +37 could climb or even attack the GC win for first.

Also the sprinters in the 10th to 20th positions could climb a bit with a solid performance today.

The point competition is also wide open still while the others are less easy to change.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1189.jpg

And with 4 break stages in a row, interest had to be big today.
Six riders again:

The Minions and Specialized though went for it today and with 8 km to go they are basically caught. Just as on previous stages Kinoshita had to work a bit, which might have cost him this little bit extra for the GC, which in especially hurts seeing that Ahlstrand couldn`t deliver really even. Maybe today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1203.jpg

Around 3 km to go and the break is fully caught.
The sprinter teams are liniing up and you can already see a colourful NC lineup of the Minions as also the Tryg train for Demare today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1217.jpg

The Specialized train took a bit longer but Dzamastagic is now bringing Coutinho into position on the left.

Meanwhile Tryg still having the dominant train with Jiang/Ahlstrand in the middle and some other minions mixed in 1st and 5th position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1221.jpg

Collapse within 500 m. Once Wright finished his leadout, Pedersen really couldn`t do a lot more and Demare suddenly from dominant in unfortunate position. He moves over to the middle where Jiang is still ahead of Ahlstrand and all other sprinters boxing up behind them.

Dzamastagic and Coutinho still "isolated" on the other side of the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1225.jpg

Coutinho doesn`t want to go into the wind yet, instead he tries to put himself into the slipstream of the others after they passed him under the Flamme Rouge.

Ahlstrand in the wind already as the single leadout by Jiang was strong but could have needed another leadout really.

Walscheid, Kamberaj and the others will enjoy that Ahlstrans leadout now I guess.

Lutsyshyn on the others side trying to surprise them by going for the long sprint, which might be good for Demare, if he can accelerate to hang on with him. Though he was in the wind already for a bit.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1235.jpg

Yes, no Ahlstrand win or even top performance neither today and also Walscheid seems to struggle a bit.

It`s Kamberaj, Contreras and Al Sabbahi leading now but plenty others are closing and still 300m to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Reports/C1/TdU/mg24_06_tdu_PCM1238.jpg

The former trio definitely up there for the top5 but the top2 seems to go to a duo that just moved around late.
Wouters in the end for Lotto-Caloi making it ahead of Perera for UBS. What a race for Lotto this is after all the Christen performance and drama, now Wouters showing up.

Kamberaj, Contreras next, then Mudgway with another fantastic positioning sprint and El Sabbahi.

The big names all lost it, with Ahlstrand, Coutinho and Demare areound 13th to 16th only.

And also Lagane today as 19th couldn`t gain some more bonuses while Boswell never really was expected to do so.

So we won`t see major GC changes here with Jensen taking it ahead of Boswell and Lagane. So Corkscrew and consistent bonuses was key this Tour Down Under.

Point wise El Sabbahi without a top top performance was most consistent and takes home the sprinter jersey with Wouters also moving up to 2nd ahead of Christen. Demare likely should have taken this today but got a 0 pointer, when a top5 would have been enough for him.
