Hello there, I'm Axel Merckx, my father as many of you know was Eddy Merckx, maybe one of the greatest cyclist of all time.
Although I've had my success in cycling with and an Olympic medal I feel like I need to find a new outlet in my life, and their come our new cycling team.
Lance Armstrong approached me and wanted to know if I'd be interested in a new U23 cycling team, of course i jumped at the opportunity, becoming the new Director Sportiff of the Trek-Livestrong team.
Lance will take the team to a few races that doesn't interfere with his comeback with Team Astana.
I'm very excited for the year, we have many talented young riders that are eager to do well, and i hope you enjoy reading.
-Axel

Australian Championships
Lance took our 2 riders to the race, we came away pretty well, our riders Jesse Sergent, and Sam Bewley came away from the TT with an 8th and 11th respectively.
In the road race Sam made the winning break and was strong enough to take third, with Chris Sutton taking the win.
These results are great assurance for the season.

G.P. Costa degli Etruschi
Febuary 2nd
My first race as a real Director!
Our day started of with Taylor Kuphaldt making the BOTD with 6 other riders.
He had 7 minutes to the peleton with 75 KM left, but LPR is starting to raise the pace for Pettachi.
With 25 KM left the break has risen to 3 minutes ahead of 2 riders, Mol and Belohvosciks, after the attacked out of the peleton, they have 40 seconds to the peleton.
When I rolled up to Taylor with 20 KM left he looked as nervous as you could be, I told him the break was going to make it, and since their were so many good sprinters in the break, i told him he had too attack when i told him.
Wiesiak then attacked from the break, Taylor got on the radio to ask what to do, i told him to stay with the group, 5 vs. 1 wins every time...usually.
With 7 KM left and he had 30 seconds on the group i told him he had to go for it, and he did.
With 3 Km to go Taylor had reached Wiesiak, problem was Vantomme came with him and had distanced himself from Taylor.
Unfourtanetly with 1 KM left the remaining breakaway caught Taylor.
Taylor would have to settle for 6th, with Vantomme taking the win.

I demand you make Taylor team captain ahead of Phinney!
In the Juniors Criuts I raced with him he had a habit of attacking halfway through and lapping the pack

Amgen Tour of California
Febuary 15th
Well this is one of the biggest races of the season, and the race organisers have defiantly brang a star studded field, Cadel Evans, Lance will be here, Contador, Devolder, Cunego, the Schlecks, Kirchen and Menchov just to name a few.
Lance was the first big hitter to come in, setting a blistering 3'38".
He couldn't celebrate for long though, the World TT champ Fabian Cancelarra took first spot by 8 seconds over Lance.
Taylor took our first big ride to move into a provisianol 10th.
Guy did an amazing ride to move into 4th, we were very happy.
And then came Mini Phinney, taking a 10th, so a good day for the team.

Amgen Tour of California Stage 1
Febuary 16th
Stage 1 takes us through a flat/hilly route to Santa Rosa.
Taylor once again made the break for us, we hope the peleton will react like they did in Italy.
Over the top of the small climb and all of our riders are off the back of the peleton, they are chasing back but I'm not sure if they can make it.
After the climb here's the situation.
Taylor was picked up with 8 KM left.
And I had to watch Ivanav take a solo win over the peleton.

Good start, awesome story idea.
I see Cody Campbell up at the velodrome in Burnaby every Friday; he kills it on the boards. Maybe you can replicate some of his results? |
