The Life and Times of Johnny Cash
AlbertHerring
When I woke up this morning, I had a thumping headache. A painkiller later, and I heard the post come through the door. I avoided picking it up by having a shower.

I am Johnny Cash, and my mates had thought up a proposition while we were at the pub, 3 months ago. We were very drunk and John and Andrew were whispering to each other. Finally they spoke out loud.

"Johnny, we bet that you can't become manager of a professional cycling team."
"How much?"
"50p".
"Deal". (You can see how drunk we were. Well, I was drunk, I dunno about the other 2.)
The next morning (or around 4PM, I had a massive hangover) I sat up to my computer, and started applying for managerial jobs of every professional cycling team. Ever since then, I've been receiving emails and letters from clubs saying no.

After my shower, I checked my Email

Subject: Kuota Senges denial

We are pleased to announce that you shall not be manager of Kuota Senges.

Pleased? The cheek of it.

I check my mail, over an hour after I heard it come through the door.

"Bill, Bill, Rejection from Barloworld." I start to leave my door, before I see a letter I forgot to open:

Team Quick Step
Kouterstraat 14
B-8560 Wevelgem
(Belgium)

We would like to announce that you are the new manager of Quickstep Innergetic. We would like you to come to our HQ to meet the riders on the 1st of January.

Wow.

Guess what. It's for real! I have no idea why.

Tom Boonen is going to be key, he's going to be our main source of wins. He'll be going for green, obviously, and some cobbles.

Bettini is a great hill rider with a nifty sprint. However, he is getting older.

A alright mountain rider and a good cobbles rider, how often does that come along? Devolder will be going for some of the hillier cobbled classics.

Yes they did.

Wow. Just wow. We had one rider in Australia. Not enough. Davis rode his heart out I am told. And he won!
