A very rich team history and a nice base to build upon this season. With a big leader or two there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to compete for the promotion spots I think.
Curious how you plan to give Stannard the training he deserves this year
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant." [ICL] Santos-Euskadi | [PT] Xero Racing
Probably should've been paying more attention, but it's really awesome how global your team is. A really cool grouping of folks and more than a few folks to catch other manager's eyes.
Hope you'll you've got some even cooler plans for the transfer season.
@jandal:
Having previously postponed by several years the obvious training of a lead puncheur I may feel the need to give Stannard some time to reflect
@seancoll:
Thanks for noticing. We try to build our team around the idea of rejecting riders from nationalities that already exist in our squad. Last year cio tried to swap Herklotz for Zegklis, but we already had Arndt as a german rider, so I couldn't make that work for him.
Seconding Jandal that it would be a shame to not see Stannard trained, although as a rival manager in the same division I laud that you're not looking to do it just yet

@wj: let's see which way i'm deciding to fumble his progression
@cio: sorry mate. maybe i can sell arndt this year and we try again?

Avalilability status
As per tradition in the transfer season everyone starts questioning if they can get an Everesting rider. In order to prevent turmoil in the streets we publish our annual availability status.

No?
Everyone is available for the right offer, but Stannard might just be a climb too steep to be conquered.
A busy transfer period has come to an end. Here's how it went for us:
1. Renewals:
We let go of mercenary Mekseb Debesay, who despite us paying him a fortune for two whole years, demanded a 622k salary after his first decline. With him went Zoltan Sipos, Adrien Petit and Rasmus Quaade who already knew they wouldn't be offered new contracts. Stagiaires Francisco Guerreiro and Eipor Eiriksson also suffered the same fate.
2. Getting a new leader Failing to come to terms with Debesay meant we needed to find ourselves a new leader for the team. Free agency was rather sympathetic with us in this regard by offering us the chance to sign Joao Rodrigues in one simple 600k bid.

3. Deciding where to go from here Having achieved our no. 1 goal we decided we either should: A. Secure funds to train Stannard for a solid foundation for long term success or B. accept we wouldn't bE able to gather said funds and maybe try to strengthen the team for a possible promotion push.
Now we're not as busy as 2kignacio, but we have our schedule constraints. Having little time available to seek and negotiate good deals led us to the remarkable conclusion we should do just that.

4. Selling our soul to the devil Having set our course we managed to attract some attention to our home-grown talents, Vahtra and Kulikovskiy. Both were with us since the birth of the Duolingo project and had just reached their peak potential, but were bitterly sacrificed. A number of other important riders left as well.
These deals, while helping approach our financial goals, left us in a no-man's land with not a great team behind our two leaders and not enough money to train them.

5. Accepting our fate Transfers were quickly approaching its end. This was when we realized we wouldn't be able to develop our talents without loan deals and wildcards. We had to resort to daily ad publications and PMs to get attention to our riders. We finally managed to get some offers, not without lowering the fees we were asking. Replacing the riders we were selling didn't happen because of all this uncertainty and because, you know, FAs tend to become less scrupulous at the end of transfers. With only 17 riders signed for the season and still looking for money we had to settle for what we had.

6. Completing the task at hand Having reached the conclusion we would have to sacrifice squad quality we decided to close shop and use some of the remaining salary cap for training/wildcards purposes. The roster was finalized with a mix of remaining youngsters and veterans in the market which should bring us a really low point haul but that was the best we could do.

7. Training camp and wildcard selection
All these dealings at least gave us the possibility of competing in 3 PT stage races: Tour of Qatar, Paris-Nice and Tour of Northern Europe, which will prove invaluable to our talents.
We also had the opportunity to give Stannard the improvement he deserved after the stupendous season he had in 2023:

Final thoughts Playing the game of digging for training money for Stannard was definitely risky in the sense we just didn't have the time and networking skills to simultaneously sell half of our riders and battle for meaningful replacements. We ended up with an unbalanced squad heavily dependent on its two leaders and with a calendar which relied on more race days from Stannard. We believe that if we can sustain ourselves in PCT this year we may have a better starting position to build a promotion push for 2025.
Very colorful with all those flags! It's great to see that Phonarjthan gets a chance to develop further with you this season. Good luck, hopefully your strategy with two strong leaders will pay off!
Enjoyed the story. As Bikex said, impressive international array, you and Minions seem to specialize in that.
Stannard is the archetype for the puncheur in the new game I think. I might have been tempted to go MT, SP or AC instead of HI but hard to know the right balance. I think Silva is a hidden gem.
Rodrigues seems like a decent get given the free agent market and that he won't decline like Debesay. Definitely very reliant on the two main leaders, but they're good riders so I would think you'll be alright.
@Bikex: Maybe we could discuss his availability next year then. Thanks, Crossing my fingers.
@UU: Yeah I just decided to go full throttle on his main stat given how expensive it would be to train any other. I agree with Silva being a cool prospect, but wouldn't go as far as calling him a 'gem'
@KO: Gotta ackownledge how busy some of us are MMmm big transfer talk.Drooling already.
@red: Pretty happy with those acquisitions. Rodrigues being the 2nd best stage racer in the FA pool (after Haig) is sweet. Riccitello was kind of a surprise. Was gunning for Piganzoli and/or Vasko as I considered Riccitello to be outside our reach, but really happy to have fished him. Thanks for the words.
@Laurens: Thanks, but the calendar choices we've made can really offset the value they bring to the team. I'm just not very confident this year.
Our esteemed designer Eezefreak designed yet again our special jerseys for our national champions. Chronic flag-bearer for Lebanon, Elia Abou Rachid, and our own Ganna from Ghana, Clement Kusi. We thank Ezeefreak again for the time and talent he so gratiously lended us once more.
