Problem with avatar

I'd like to have an avatar, but it doesn't work. i click on "browse", i select my picture, which is at the right size, and then i update my profile, but when i post, there no avatar. What's the problem ?

The size could be too big (of the file) it's often solved by saving the file in 24 bit size rather than 32. The difference in quality is so minimal only a termite with a magnifying glass could tell.

The filesize need to be right, the avatar have to be 100x100px or smaller, and the filename has to be easy, like "avatar.jpg", no "sexy.smoking-hot[biatch.jpg".

Yeah, i know, but it's like 3.70 Kb, and the size is 89x143, so Idon't see the problem.
But what i'm asking is : do i have to put [img][/img] between ?
you know, i'm not very good at computers

I took a picture which is 89x59, 15.6 Kb, .BMP and it doesn't work. I update the profile, but there's no avatar!!!!
