South African National Championships '23 Road Race
Kicking things off was Shaun Nick BESTER, who attacked just as the slopes began to rise towards the finish. His acceleration wasn't overly selective, but Louis MEINTJES - the standalone favourite in the absence of Keagan GIRDLESTONE - countered as soon as the pace dropped. Nobody could follow, although BESTER began cooperating with Louis VISSER, Kent MAIN and Ricardo BROXHAM.
Both BROXHAM and VISSER were very quickly cooked. MAIN, sensing victory very rapidly slipping away from him, stood up on his pedals in an effort to close the gap. That was too much for BESTER but it didn't even put a dent in the gap to MEINTJES.
In the end it was far too easy for him, Louis MEINTJES dominating the competition. Kent MAIN managed to hold on for second, just under two minutes down. Johann VAN ZYL rounded out the podium; a measured ride allowing him to pass those who had outdone themselves.
South African National Championships '23 Individual Time Trial
This was another competition that could have been much more exciting if some absences had been avoided. No Bryan MUNTON, Stefan DE BOD nor Nicholas DLAMINI means no challenge for Morne VAN NIEKERK. He easily defends the jersey with a time of 1h00'16".
