Road Race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/Others/NC/AUS/01.jpg

A shorter startlist with the main body of the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aau.png Amaysim squad failing to attend. One rider looking to make the most of the reduced and diffused numbers is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Jack BOBRIDGE. He hasn't had the most successful season riding in the ProContinental Tour, mostly because time has begun to catch up with him, but he is hoping to go out with a bang as he follows the attack of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gla.png Matthew DINHAM. The pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gla.png Glanbia rider doesn't have favourite on his team, so has evidently decided his time is best spent on setting up his veteran countryman.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png BOBRIDGE summits the penultimate climb with a gap of more than a ½ minute. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/yor.png Lachlan MORTON and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Robert STANNARD led the chase behind, both being bereft of the benefit of domestiques. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gla.png DINHAM was brought back on the descent. Although the chase begins to cooperate somewhat, with multiple riders pulling through, it collapses as the finish nears, giving pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png BOBRIDGE 20" at the base of the final climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/yor.png MORTON, alongside pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/t3a.png Ben O'CONNOR and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/fas.png Michael MATTHEWS, were best placed in the pack.

The chasers' failure to put together a rapid and cohesive response meant that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png BOBRIDGE simply had too much of an advantage coming up that final ascent. He paced himself well and never looked in any danger of being overcome; he'll be proudly flying the Aussie colours at age 35 (provided he can find himself a ride). pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/fas.png MATTHEWS had initially looked the fastest of the group behind, but he rapidly faded as the road kept rising. Instead pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png STANNARD came through to take silver: he'll be hoping to go one better next year.

The result was never in any doubt as soon as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ced.png Damien HOWSON was unleashed onto the circuit. He set a blistering pace; his final time of 1h00'04 more than 45" quicker than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/min.png Rohan DENNIS, his closest competitor.
