Well... Ok so it's not the greatest game ever made...by quite a fair margin, but i'm still trying to get a jersey in the Tour, anyone else succeeded at this yet? Can easily win all other races but apart from one heartbreaking 2nd in a stage, I have never finished in the top 40, usually ending up around 80th overall. I can't see how it is possible to overtake 120 odd riders in one stage to win!
SO does anyone know..
How to get a better start position?
How the points and climing jerseys are won?
Many thanks, NBLue |

To actually win the yellow jersey I presume you have to wait until the 4th or 5th 'season' when youll be good enough and have a decent enough starting position to be able to win a jersey in the tour. |

You can't really better your starting position. The higher the difficulty level, the lower starting position.
It took me c. 1 day to win it all |

First of all I haven´t got the game , but I heard several things of the game and watched many screenshots
1. I heard that your start position is random , but also I heard that when you have much mountain training , you will start much more infront at a mountain stage
2. Maybe there are the intermediate sprints and mountain sprints because at some screenshots I´ve seen some signs , maybe they give the points away

Training is the most important part, yes. Without training, you won't improve, and you won't stand a chance of winning anything. |

It really doesn't. Training is the most important part of the game, and you will clearly see a difference in TdF from the 1st to the 2nd year. |

Races are mainly important to make you better at controlling the rider. But without improvement in his stats, you won't win much anyway. So 60/40 pro training, I'd say - if not 70/30. |

Thankfully, yes. Its not worth the £15 I paid on ebay for it 2 years ago, anyway. |

No, i have it for xbox. Though it's not called the cetenery edition or whatever. The most annnoying problems were the bugs that caused you to crash into/through the road at certain highly predictable points. I only ever managed to "win" flat stages. The hilly/mountain ones i couldnt do because the bike i had to use couldn't turn/go around corners. Highly frustrating.

True, it's also available for X-Box. Two verisons were released for the PS2, Tour de France and Tour de France: Certenary. As far as I know, the differences between the two versions are minimal, though, which I don't really understand since the Certenary-game was released quite a lot later.
Also, I only have the Tour de France game, and I still managed ot help you despite not having the same game as you
Oh, and to sum up: It's the worst game - ever. Horrible gameplay, it's like Konami has never ever actually seen a race. There's c. 8 stages in total (which the Tour de France consists of...), there's c. 15 real riders, and that's pretty much it.
It's fun, though, for the first two hours. After that, you've completed the game and can put it away forever. |

The Centenary version got team help so a rider of your team could take water for you or give some slipstream
Also they had more "real" riders (Virenque for example) and also some more teams (like Team Telekom , Team CSC etc.)
I think it´s more a problem of put in 180 riders perfectly (peleton etc.) with good graphics and large stages
It could be today possible (when I see PCM for PSP , if they could do that for XBOX 360 , that would be very cool I would buy it^^) to do that , but 2002/2003 on PS2 or XBOX , I think that was really hard also I think they wanted also some action so more people would buy it
Even it´s not so good , I think it´s better than Cycling Evolution XD
I´ve got some more screenshots (on a german site , I can´t believe it they have them still there)

It was also possible to be in the slipstream of team mates in the 1st game In fact, it's pretty much impossible to win if that feature wasn't implented. |
