Today we have a MTT scheduled. Given the three mountain stages we already have seen the GC pretty much matches the favourites list, so we’ll focus on the Top 14 (everyone within 1 minute of the Top 10) and will just look into the fastest riders beforehand. There are no KoM points on offer today.
Intxausti is the first capable climber and sets a first benchmark of 37’45.
His teammate Andriafenomananiaina is the first one to beat him with a time of 37’15.
Cabanas is the new leader with 36’34.
He’s beaten by Siriwardena by 9 seconds.
Pavlic is another 7’’ faster.
Andriafenomananiaina is much faster. His time is 35’38.
Pluchkin matches this time, but Taaramäe is even 21’’ faster than his two teammates.
His time is beaten by 3’’ by Misbah.
The GC fight starts with Madrazo who sets a new best time: 34’52.
Inkelaar loses 1’48.
Schelling doesn’t do well either, he’s 37’’ down.
Pomoshnikov is 2’21 behind the lead.
He’s even been overtaken by Monsalve who still loses 50’’.
Arndt has a really bad day as he loses 3’22.
Schlegel is 1’45 down.
Berhane loses 1’36.
Bennett is 1’37 behind.
Oomen does much better. After overtaking the Kiwi he sets a new best time of 34’37.
Aular finishes in a preliminary 5th place with a gap of 42’’.
Padun is only 15th and loses 1’13. The GC fight of the past days clearly takes its toll!
Yates does better and finishes 4th, losing 38’’. That’s enough to keep yellow though! There are no major changes in the other classifications.
