Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy
181.6km
C2
It’s a flat 181.6km here at the Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy that has always come down to a sprint. The circuit race has meaningful uphill section, but it shouldn’t be long enough for any meaningful splits due to the “climb” at least. We’ve seen some tiny undulations cause mini breaks in the peloton that do matter already this season, so every contender better pay attention to positioning.
For this year’s race, we only see 16 teams in competition. McCormick, Assa Abloy, and Lierse SK – Pizza Ullo are the PCT representatives while just over half of the CT field arrives. Still, there’s more than a few teams that will be coming away with multiple scorers.
History
Winners
2022 | Luke Keough | 2021 | Leigh Howard | 2020 | Artem Samolenkov | 2019 | John Degenkolb | 2018 | Ivano Lo Cicero | 2017 | Damion Drapac | 2016 | Nacer Bouhanni |
Lo Cicero is the only one of our former victors to take the start line this year. It’s been a long time since his 2018 victory at the C1 level. His sprint is still exceptional for this field, but the acceleration may not be there for the aging superstar. Adidas-Eurocash may even be hoping for a different teammate to lead the way in Reinhardt (although we’ll see who gets the best chance to sprint).
From 2022, Habtom is our best returner from last year’s race. Again, it looks doubtful that he will get the nod from his team this year though as Habtom has both Cisse and Moser ahead of him in the pecking order. Habtom will be having nightmares from celebrating too early as well.
Yzeiraj is the only other top 5 finisher to return to the race after last year’s 5th place. He was caught in the final kilometer after a final 5km breakaway attempt. He’ll be looking for a last minute breakaway that could make it to the end.
Name | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | FG | Ivano Lo Cicero | 68 | 65 | 57 | 80 | 72 | 50 | Xhuliano Kamberaj | 75 | 73 | 73 | 79 | 78 | 64 | Adomaitis Rojus | 75 | 66 | 74 | 79 | 78 | 60 | Yoeri Havik | 73 | 74 | 68 | 79 | 76 | 60 | Moreno Moser | 71 | 71 | 67 | 79 | 77 | 62 | Riccardo Minali | 73 | 70 | 74 | 79 | 79 | 62 | Thomas Boudat | 73 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 78 | 62 | Emils Liepins | 73 | 73 | 68 | 78 | 79 | 58 | Gabriel Marin | 74 | 73 | 73 | 78 | 78 | 63 | Tim Merlier | 73 | 72 | 72 | 78 | 74 | 63 | Phil Bauhaus | 74 | 71 | 65 | 78 | 75 | 59 | Theo Reinhardt | 70 | 71 | 64 | 78 | 82 | 50 | Sonny Colbrelli | 73 | 72 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 54 | Issiaka Cisse | 74 | 73 | 67 | 78 | 77 | 73 | Jakub Mareczko | 74 | 71 | 73 | 78 | 77 | 61 | Guillaume Boivin | 72 | 71 | 67 | 77 | 77 | 71 | Dan McLay | 73 | 74 | 72 | 77 | 76 | 62 | Mikiel Habtom | 75 | 75 | 75 | 77 | 78 | 60 | Jay Major | 74 | 74 | 70 | 77 | 78 | 62 |
Here we have our top 19 pure sprinters, which is where we expect this race to come down to although some late attacks are always possible. Lo Cicero stands out as the only 80 sprinter, but his lack of resistance and acceleration may cause some trouble for the aging sprinter. Adidas-Eurocash is prepared with a back-up option though as Reinhardt should be able to slingshot out of anyone’s wheel.
Kamberaj is another name not to miss with their success so far in the season. They’re one of the strongest pure sprinters once the race gets tough and should be able to manage the hills better than most if anyone does try to make attacks on the slight inclines. Merlier is here to lead him out while Merlier might’ve been able to handle the sprint himself for a minor placing.
Minali may also get some looks from teams as the potential favorite as the 79/79 man. We expect him to be jumping between trains as his leadout doesn’t match the other top favorites.
Simba Cement – Tanga Fresh arrives with an embarrassment of riches. Moser will be given the nod we believe, but Cisse and Habtom would’ve been given favorite status by more than a few teams in this race. They’ll be hoping for all three to sprint for extra points.
Almost every team is represented in some way from these favorites except two - Caja Rural and Assa Abloy. They’ll be figuring out alternatives to a bunch sprint for potential success.
Name | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | FG | Marildo Yzeiraj | 77 | 74 | 74 | 62 | 71 | 85 | Pawel Bernas | 75 | 73 | 69 | 69 | 71 | 81 | Sarawut Sirironnachai | 71 | 77 | 74 | 64 | 73 | 80 | Torkil Veyhe | 80 | 66 | 71 | 56 | 78 | 80 | Yosukue Matsumoto | 73 | 70 | 73 | 65 | 75 | 79 | Kim Magnusson | 74 | 70 | 69 | 65 | 73 | 79 | Bernard Van Aert | 71 | 70 | 71 | 71 | 72 | 78 | Alexis Gougeard | 73 | 72 | 76 | 64 | 65 | 78 | Patrick Naud | 76 | 72 | 73 | 64 | 67 | 78 |
Yzeiraj found themselves very close to a victory last year with a late attack, so there is certainly the possibility of an attacking victory. Above all, they're just incredibly strong when it comes to a final 10km move.
Strava and Assa Abloy are also clearly leaning into this potential possibility. Assa Abloy has 5 potential attackers and they’ll need to use them with no real sprint option. Strava on the other hand has a top sprinting option, so they’ll be able to mark moves and be able to hold off contributing in the peloton once someone jumps ahead.
Naud is McCormick’s best breakaway option here. A strong flat rating could mean he can join forces with some others and pull away to the finish.
Good luck to all competing and here’s to hoping the winner is actually mentioned in this preview unlike my last.

Hopefully we can see some success in one of the flat C2 classics we’re participating in this year. We rely on Veyhe to make it happen, so crossing my fingers for some late attacks!
Thanks for the preview

First C2 race for us, all flat classics with Naud as the leader, hoping for late attack to pick up some points. Boivin looks too far down the sprint favorites list to get the job done.

Thanks sean for the preview
Hoping for some Liepins magic! I’m betting on Kamberaj as favorite here though.

What an upset! Marte so good as a neo-pro and deserved reward for his recent breakaway efforts. Will take that very happily along with some other very happy managers i'm sure.

Wow, didn’t see that one coming. First of all, big congrats to DarkWolf. Happy to see that his rebuilding project already brings a reward.
We’re obviously very happy with third place from Berckmoes. We could even have two top-10s if Fagundez didn’t puncture
All jokes aside, another unexpected points haul from this one.
Thanks sean for the report!

Congrats to DarkWolf, surely that's much more than you could hope for from a neo-pro like Rojas (who should have ended as a stagiaire with us ).
Thanks sean for the report, it's nice to follow how the reporter gets surprised by the race himself.

Congrats to DarkWolf, that was a major upset!
For us, typical that we win the bunch sprint when it's for the 11th and not the win.
3 guys within the top 15, should at least give us some points.

Another race with braindead AI.

What a surprise! Marte performed exceptionally well as a neo-pro, deserving recognition for his recent breakaway efforts. I'm sure many managers, including myself, will gladly take that result. geometry dash meltdown |
