Preview
Some of the very best CT sprinters assemble in the United States to conclude the month of April for their teams. It's the 10th edition of the race and it'll get its 10th different winner, as no previous one is on the startlist.
Three flat stages precede a 4.2 kilometer long epilogue. We've got sprinter stage race bonus seconds rules here, meaning the winner gets 25 down to 1 for 10th place, and this has been enough to swing the GC in favor of sprinters rather than prologue specialists. However, there are a few overlaps ...
Leader | FL | RS | SP | AC | PR | Leadout | SP | AC | Minali | 73 | 74 | 79 | 79 | 70 | | | | Krieger | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | 55 | | | | Boudat | 73 | 74 | 79 | 78 | 78 | Selig | 76 | 76 | Rojus | 75 | 74 | 79 | 78 | 75 | Van Stayen | 78 | 69 | Kamberaj | 75 | 73 | 79 | 78 | 70 | Merlier | 78 | 74 | Riabushenko | 76 | 74 | 79 | 77 | 67 | Itami | 76 | 76 | Reinhardt | 70 | 64 | 78 | 82 | 66 | Lo Cicero | 80 | 72 | Liepins | 73 | 68 | 78 | 79 | 60 | Rathe | 74 | 76 | Moser | 71 | 67 | 79 | 77 | 71 | Wippert | 77 | 81 | Marin | 74 | 73 | 78 | 78 | 69 | Andersson | 76 | 76 | Scott | 72 | 71 | 78 | 78 | 57 | Baterdene | 76 | 77 | Tivani | 70 | 78 | 77 | 78 | 72 | Oka | 76 | 76 | Sanikwathi | 72 | 67 | 78 | 78 | 68 | Bauhaus | 78 | 75 | Major | 74 | 70 | 77 | 78 | 64 | Matthews | 76 | 76 | Walls | 72 | 70 | 78 | 76 | 71 | | | | Colbrelli | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 65 | | | |
It's a long list of ambitious sprinters here, as only 2 of the 18 teams present aren't represented above, namely Air New Zealand and Caja Rural. It's tough to single out any one or two of these riders on sprint stats alone. However, Boudat and Rojus have to be noted as strong prologue riders. If they collect enough bonus seconds to be near the GC lead, that could put either of them over the top. Among the elite sprinters, Minali, Kamberaj and Moser are also decent prologue riders.
As a side note, three of these sprinters are U25-eligible: Rojus, Scott and Walls.
| FL | TT | PR | | FL | TT | PR | Van Moer | 76 | 79 | 79 | Predatsch | 69 | 77 | 77 | Hamza | 74 | 76 | 79 | Aregger | 72 | 67 | 77 | Oka | 73 | 74 | 79 | Vanderpool | 68 | 77 | 76 | Frame | 71 | 69 | 79 | Hennis | 69 | 76 | 76 | Boudat | 73 | 62 | 78 | Balloni | 70 | 75 | 75 | Dumoulin | 70 | 77 | 77 | Reddish | 72 | 66 | 75 |
In addition to Boudat, who's a true dual threat in this race, there are a few riders who are the top favorites for the final stage. Van Moer clearly tops that list (and he's the fourth notable rider for the U25 classification), but SEE Turtles duo Hamza and Oka, as well as Frame, are certainly capable of taking that stage win, too. Oka and Frame are both fast finishers, too, but likely ride in support of a faster teammate on the flat stages. Lastly, while unlikely to achieve an outstanding result, Reddish and Balloni are their team's best hope of a decent stage finish other than from a breakaway.

Excited to represent strongly in what will be the closest thing we have to a home race! Our biggest hope is clearly taking a stage win in the epilogue. 4km should be short enough that the TT stat doesn't start mattering. That said, Hamza and Oka should both be trying to earn themselves the stage win and at least bring home a good result.
Tivani should be able to get some Top 10 sprint finishes, if not some top 5. With a strong leadout and some other favorites ahead of him, he won't be the most likely to jump too early. I didn't realize Tivani might actually be one of the stronger sprinters in the epilogue as well. Hopefully he can hold his own and make up some ground on those ahead of him.
A top 10 overall with at least 2 stage top 5s is going to be the goal here for us. It's a tough field, but we really need to kick up our scoring an be closer to 10pprd here instead of 3 or worse. Hopefully we can pull something off.

Not a ton of expectation for this race, we may well be relying on a fluke breakaway to get much at all. This should be a fun race overall, cool field.

Tough for us not to be here as is it is our home race and been our win goal in every prior year but just didn't have the right rider to make good use of the race days.
Will be routing for Rojus and Tivani as they are both McCormick alums.
Thanks for the preview.

Hope that Moser can snatch a podium. Will be satisfied with top-10 though and look forward to the race

I thought this would be a nice race for Zariff when I sold him to CT, not here though

Thanks cunego for the preview!
I hope Liepins can score in one of the three flat stages. A lot of competition though!

Here's hoping that Boudat can win a stage and do well in the prologue. A GC win would be awesome! With Selig he has a good pull, while Degenkolb sprints for the win in Lisbon. Very exciting days to come for our team.

Great great start for us, exactly what I had hoped for. Not only did Boudat win, he also got other bonus seconds in intermediate sprints.
As he is one of the best prologue riders, it is already looking very good for us GC wise. Now maybe Boudat can get another couple seconds in the next stages and really go for the win in GC, that would be lovely!

A little sad that Hamza couldn't get away for a few bonus seconds, but we can live with that. Very tough to see Boudat get the intermediate though as it puts everyone in a real tough spot in GC.
Was a bit worried Tivani wouldn't sprint at all, but 10th is good enough I guess. Every bonus second matters and he can find some time in the prologue on a good day. A great result for Major also tells me one could be coming for Tivani.
Thanks for the report!

I'm happy with 5th place from Liepins today. He's an awful prologue rider, so I don't expect a good GC result tbh

Apologies for the poor replication of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, doing something that looks good is well beyond my stage making skills.
Kamberaj has been an absolute machine this year, don't think he loses 22 seconds in the finale.

Man, are we really losing the GC? Finishind 13th in stage 3 cost us a lot, especially with Kamberaj winning. I doubt that Boudat can gain this much in such a short prologue

That wasn't meant to be a dig at the stage making at all, if anything it was directed at my (currently enforcedly low) graphics settings. Sorry if it came across that way. I thought the route was really cool, would've like to do it more justice with the screenshots

First of all, congrats to seancoll! Really cool win, I'm happy for you
Fortunately, Liepins was able to limit the damage for us, despite an almost last place.
Congrats to Stela-Vita and JEWA (again), another great points haul for both of them. Other teams will need a very good run to keep you guys from promoting to PCT.
I'm curious to see the next ranking update.
Thanks cunego for the reports!
