A rare breakaway success yesterday resulted in significant changes in the GC and some changes in the KOM standings. Today is yet another big mountain stage for our riders to tackle, having more climbs than yesterday but compressed into a shorter length! One can except more upheavals up and down the GC, and indeed other classifications.

Chaos in the peloton as the early climb sees a mad scramble among riders to try to join the break. Two big groups form with a rider hanging in between.
The first group consists of Godoy, Bennett, Foss, Stussi, Pinot, Mavrikakis, Cort Nielsen, Ardila, Stancu, Chamorro, Mamykin and Foliforov.
Champoussin is in between the two groups.
The next group has Rodrigues, Buitrago, Habtemichael, Arensman, Nesset, Brkic, Rubio, Fortunato, Crncevic, Phodingham, Chaiyasombat, Johannessen and Arslanov.
2 km to go till the summit of the first climb.
Bennett wins the first KOM ahead of Godoy, Pinot, Stussi, Ardila, Mamykin and Mavrikakis.
Arensman, Fortunato and Johannessen are dropped from the second group on the second climb.
Bennett wins the second KOM as well. He is followed through by Stussi, Godoy, Pinot, Ardila, Mamykin and Mavrikakis.
Ardila, Bennett, Stussi, Pinot and Godoy is the order through the intermediate sprint.
Here is the situation at the start of the third climb:
E1 --> Same riders getting points in the intermediate sprint plus Foss, Mavrikakis, Mamykin
E2 --(1'46" )--> Chamorro, Phodingham, Habtemichael
E3 --(2'15" )--> Stancu, Cort Nielsen, Nesset, Arslanov
Peloton --(3'57" )--> Shikai, Gregaard, Chaiyasombat, Foliforov, Haig, Carthy, Hirt, Dombrowski, Blums, Giannoutsos, Mas, Galta, Amezawa, Zwiehoff, Bouchard, Johannessen, Prado
Foss, Mamykin and Mavrikakis are dropped from the lead group 7 km from the summit of the third climb.
The Cort Nielsen group (earlier E3) has been caught by the pack.
Ardila is dropped from E1 4 km from the summit.
Godoy drops the others in the lead group a kilometer from the summit. He sits currently 10th in the GC, 7'47" down on the leader.
Godoy of course wins the third KOM. The order behind him is Bennett, Pinot, Ardila, Habtemichael and Mamykin.
With 5 km to go, Godoy is the virtual GC leader with a gap of 8'23" over the peloton.
The situation behind him is as follows:
E2 --(1'23" )--> Pinot, Bennett, Stussi (7'30" deficit in GC)
E3 --(3'33" )--> Ardila
E4 --(6'31" )--> Foss, Chamorro, Mamykin, Habtemichael
E5 --(6'48" )--> Mavrikakis
Peloton --(8'23" )--> 23 riders, including all favourites. Cort Nielsen, Nesset and Gregaard are the best placed riders dropped.
Godoy holds a lead of 1'39" as he enters the final kilometer.
Godoy takes a comfortable win. He made the move at the right time and didn't look back! He will definitely make up ground in the GC today.
Bennett comes home in 2nd, followed by Stussi and Pinot. All three are also looking at significant GC improvements.
With 700 meters to go, Ardila is caught by the group of Dombrowski, Haig, Galta, Carthy and Hirt. Amezawa and Shikai are just behind.
Dombrowski is too strong for the others and takes 5th. He has made up enough ground to safely keep his jersey, and also gains some time on his nearest rival(s).
Then it is Haig, Galta, Hirt and Carthy for positions 6th through 9th.
Ardila gets 10th, followed by Amezawa.
Mas is 12th. Next is Giannoutsos.
Shikai is 14th.
Johannessen completes the Top 15. Then it's Mamykin, Rodrigues, Foss, Blums and Bouchard.
Today's winner - Caio Godoy.
Godoy's exploits pushes him up to 4th in the GC. Stussi is now 5th. Galta stays in 6th with Giannoutsos and Amezawa now 7th and 8th, respectively. Bennett improves to 9th. Carthy loses big again and is now 10th, but with a gap to Shikai, who is 11th.
Hirt moves up to 3rd in the Points, with Dombrowski now 5th. Bennett is the new leader of the KOM, ahead of Dombrowski, who's tied with Chamorro for 2nd. Fouche still leads the U25s but Johannessen is up to 2nd with Pidcock dropping to 3rd. Carlsberg continue to lead the Teams classification.
Seven riders finished outside the time limit today.
