Stage 4

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/01.jpg

After an absolutely bizarre stage 3 with no breakaway, stage 4 is another monster flat stage - although with a slight bit more elevation change. The race should again be for the sprinters, but we’ll see if they allow a breakaway to take some pressure off their hands today. Still, the pure sprinter’s teams may think they need to do even more work after pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse stole one of their biggest opportunities.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/02.jpg

It’s furious attacking to find the breakaway today after that opportunity was taken away on stage 3. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Marchewka and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Jarc were the first to break away with many others pushing away from the front but there is still a major effort from the peloton not to allow too large of a group. A foursome of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Kulppi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Alben, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Marryatt, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Simmons join the front and this seems to be allowable.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/03.jpg

The group of six is far too worried about the peloton pacing behind to sprint for the points. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Kulppi gains the 1st place points with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Alben and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Marchewka taking 2nd and 3rd. The group of 6 has 45 seconds on the main field led by Tryg-Gobyk. The gap seems relatively stable at this point hovering between 45 and 60 seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/04.jpg

There’s 175km to go and something about this breakaway is worrying Tryg-Gobyk behind. They’ve put 6 riders at the front relaying to hold the gap to the breakaway at 1:00 even. Again the breakaway is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Kulppi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Alben, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Jarc, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Marryatt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Marchewka, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Simmons with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Kulppi the best placed over 6:00 back. No other teams are willing to help relaying in the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/05.jpg

The breakaway just couldn’t hold up against the strength of the Tryg-Gobyk train and they’re back in the peloton with 160km to go. Behind, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/see.png Trillini has caught a puncture and is being brought back to the peloton by some of his SEE Turtle teammates. With the furious pace up front, they may be behind for the rest of the day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Ludvigsson is the next attacker alongside pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Muhindo who both rode together on stage 2 in the breakaway. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Ludvigsson seems to be marked by Trans Looney Tunes who are the new pace setters in the peloton refusing to allow him any leash. They get a tad bit of assistance from Team Würth Modyf. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Ludvigsson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Muhindo return to the peloton within 10km.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/06.jpg

The second intermediate sprint of the day is taken by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Losch! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Boivin grabs 2nd place here while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/twm.png Willwohl takes the final points. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tlt.png Korosec, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Rodenberg are those left out after making a run for it.

Team Würth Modyf and Trans Looney Tunes share the pacemaking between the 2nd and 3rd intermediate points. Tryg-Gobyk offers a rider occasionally.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/07.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Losch has really figured out the intermediate sprints and takes the 3rd one, too! They give 2nd to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/twm.png Willwohl and 3rd to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Rodenberg in the official results. There’s 55km to go now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/08.jpg

The KOM point with 21km to go is not contested. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Rohendi leads the pack over the top while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Areruya gains 4 points for 2nd place and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Golovash getting 3rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Areruya is likely to gain more points on future stages so current leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tlt.png Senyenov may want to pay more attention to the GC favorite as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/09.jpg

There’s 9km to go and there is absolutely no organization at the front of the peloton. Team Popo4ever p/b Morshynska seems prepared to take the front with a small train but aren’t sure if they’re ready yet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/10.jpg

5km to go and it is still very hectic at the front. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Prevar is pushing ahead with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Arif Prayogo in his wheel. There are still sprinters sitting alone without any help and GC leaders also trying to hold their spot. The Indosat Ooredoo train hits the front looking to make up for yesterday’s missed opportunity.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Cahyadi was the final leadout man for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Nur Hasan and started to falter at 2.7km to go so the entire peloton slowed down just as it did on stage 3. However, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Golovash launches pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski at the same time on the right side of the road and they look like they’re getting a gap but they’re still a long way to the finish and it’s slightly uphill all the way.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/12.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski couldn’t hold the pace to keep a gap all the way and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Nur Hasan works hard to close the gap as everyone approaches the flamme rouge. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png El Sabbahi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Page, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Rodenberg sit in row 3 with the rest of the sprint field ready to pounce..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/13.jpg

800m to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski still holds the lead but others are coming fast behind. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Nur Hasan has left the slipstream with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Rodenberg still benefiting from the Indonesian. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Page also has some clear lanes while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png El Sabbahi appears to be heading backwards. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Losch is best of the rest while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse is also putting his hat in the ring.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/14.jpg

400m to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski is absolutely out of steam. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Page has taken over the lead by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png El Sabbahi is now coming strong. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Rodenberg still has a chance on the other side of the road while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse looks full of life too. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tlt.png Korosec may even find a path with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Losch to gain victory.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse again! The Lampre-Pinarello star celebrates as he crosses the line after he flies by in the final 200m! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png El Sabbahi comes through with a strong 2nd place while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tlt.png Korosec may have been fighting for the win if there were 300m more.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/17.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Page is the 4th place man after mistiming the final sprint just a tad. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Rodenberg was strong for not being able to utilize slipstreaming in the final km and takes home 5th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Losch is 6th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Nur Hasan. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Yates leads the GC riders with an 8th place finish while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Gibbons close out the top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/18.jpg

The stage win again goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S4/19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse also takes control of the points jersey with another stage victory!
