Tour de Pologne - Stage 1

Tour De Pologne
Stage 1
7.7km Prologue
Krakow - Krakow

Last year’s prologue had a surprise victor in Kent Main, so this really could be anyone’s race. With a generally flat profile, with a small incline midway through, the organizers will only be taking times at the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/44.jpg

The first riders head off the start ramp without many chances for best time overall or GC hopes. The early leading time is set by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Van Zyl in 9:03 to lead all those in the first grouping. With so many strong riders and GC opportunists close together, the TV providers have already indicated we may miss a couple contenders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/02.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Schlegel is the first major GC man to leave the start ramp. Prologues are not his strong suit and he comes in with a 9:30.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/03.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Meurisse sets off right behind him and looks on a good ride. 9:20 for the Lampre - Pinarello man.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/04.jpg

Another one of the punchy men, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Seboka is the next to depart. He will struggle here today and comes in 10:15.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/05.jpg

Another strong hills rider in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Prevar is off. He aims to just hold as much time as he can and ends in 9:43.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/06.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Pszczolarski is the first prologue specialist to leave the starting ramp. His time will let us know just how good of a day pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Van Zyl was on. 8:54 puts pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Pszczolarski at the top for now!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/07.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Masnada is here for the always strong time trialist Jura GIANTS. He will hope to stay in GC contention throughout and puts together a decent time. 9:09.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/08.jpg
Another man here only for this stage is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/twm.png Predatsch. His focus will be on ecclipsing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Pszczolarski’s time and nothing else. He does! 8:52 and again, a new leader!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/09.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Nsengimana is the next rider out of the starting ramp. A strong man against the clock, he might just be able to stay in contention for some of the easier hill stages depending on how folks ride. 3rd so far! 8:55!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/10.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Müller is another one who wishes today didn’t have to be in the parcours. 9:33 for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Müller, enough to stay in contention if he can get away in a front attacking group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Ocampo is next of the best prologue riders. Like many others who are succeeding today, his hopes are limited to stage 1. A new 3rd place for him - 8:54.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/12.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Marchewka is Jura’s biggest hope for today. 8:51 and a new best time! This one should be tough to beat!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/twm.png Magnussen is another strong rider for today’s profile but its 4 seconds back in 8:55.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/14.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Marryatt is the first Spark- BNZ Racing rider to peak our interest. He’s really approached his preceding athlete which should be a good sign. It is! 8:51 to match best time but the fractions put him in 1st.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/15.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Matsuda is the next rider under the flamme rouge and he looks flying as well. He’s also in at same time as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Marryatt, but he’s listed as 4th behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Marchewka and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/twm.png Predatsch.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/16.jpg

Another time trial specialist, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Golovash is ready for today’s endeavor. He shows the others that 8:51 isn’t good enough. 8:49 is new best time for the Team Popo4ever p/b Morshynska rider!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/17.jpg
One of the two top favorites though is right after him in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Haugard. He’s not yet to the 1km banner when pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Golovash crosses the line, but still has a chance at top time. 8:46! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Haugard is the new leader!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/18.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Jungels should contest for a top 10 here and does. He jumps into 2nd at 8:48!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/19.jpg
Halfway through and many of today’s favorites have crossed the line. 8:46 looks like a tough time to beat, but many have dropped under 9:00. Any GC rider who can eclipse that barrier will be a very happy man. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Haugard leads!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/20.jpg
One of the better CT GC hopes is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Dyrnes who is not the strongest against the clock. It’s a respectable 9:27 for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/21.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Errazkin is watching pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/taf.png Dyrnes cross the line and doesn’t have much more to go. A great result for him compared to the GC group in 9:09!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/22.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Kopfauf was left off the favorites list, but should be excited for today. Only 4th for him so far but still a great result in 8:49.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/23.jpg
Los Pollos Hermanos have put their faith in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lph.png Higuita, who didn’t necessarily put faith in his time trial bike. 9:33 is a decent result for him to stay in contention once the road goes uphill.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/24.jpg

Assa Abloy makes its first appearances on our screens with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Faglum Karlsson, both a top prologue rider and man for the GC finishing 7th last year. Surely his team expects a strong result - and they get it! While he won’t sit atop the leaderboard, he joins the group at 8:48 and is now 2nd overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/25.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/twm.png Dumoulin is one of the last riders who can contest for the stage victory. It’s 6th overall as he crosses the line in 8:50.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/26.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Beltran is ready to regain the Pologne title after so many years of it evading him since his first win. 9:25 is a great time for him today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/27.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Arif Prayogo is the final prologue specialist to hit the races today. He puts in a great time but ends up 5th in 8:49.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/28.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tlt.png Bystrom is away from the start gate with hopes for Trans Looney Tunes. It’s a tough day for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tlt.png Bystrom - 9:40.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/29.jpg
Next away is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Stannard who should do well compared to most of the GC riders. A good ride, indeed. 9:18

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/30.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Bobridge is on an absolute cracker as he sees pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Stannard finish right ahead of him with only about 600m to go. He’s the first major GC contender under 9:00. 8:55!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/31.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Boswell has to see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Bobridge from much farther but it’s a decent time still for the McCormick man. 9:16

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/32.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Turgis isn’t the strongest today as he tries to hold his GC chances. 9:19 will keep him close enough in contention for that.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/33.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Penasa is another strong GC rider on a good day. 9:10 for the Italian as he slots himself into a stellar position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/34.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Buchmann holds his own against the better time trialists today. He joins pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lmp.png Turgis on 9:19 for a result he and the team should be happy with.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/35.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Moscon has 1km to go as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Buchmann finishes so he should slot in a bit better than the Team UBS - Tissot rider ahead of him. 26 seconds back for 9:12.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/36.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/brs.png Meintjes finishes in 9:06 - near the top of the GC favorites so he should be very happy. He’ll simply have to turn around to see how his closest competitors might fare.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/37.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/sfi.png Benoot is a long way from the line. He’ll need to make up time on the others tomorrow. 9:34 is manageable but definitely a taller ask.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/38.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Gesbert coming to the line means there’s only 5 riders left. It’s not great, but he’ll be happy with 9:23 we think, especially with a teammate in 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/39.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Yates is next and he’ll definitely be happy. He matches pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/brs.png Meintjes in 9:06.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/40.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/fas.png Olivier is the 3rd to last man to come to the line. The Fastned leader ends in 9:12 - a good result for him to stay in contact with the other top climbers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/41.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Areruya is the man everyone has been waiting for! The defending champion finishes in 9:25. He manages to hold a gap that should be achievable for him to overcome, but there will definitely be some competitors happy they’re in front of the Rwandan.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/42.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png Kelderman is the final rider and he chased pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Areruya all the way to the line. He’s just 23 seconds back of 1st to arrive at 9:09. 16 seconds ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/xr0.png Areruya is a good gap for the Colombini star.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/HC/Pologne/S1/43.jpg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ubt.png Haugard is the first leader of the Tour de Pologne!
