Karlovy Vary - Praha

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/01.jpg

It’s another sprint stage to close out the return trip to Praha. A breakaway will contend for the only KOM points of the competition.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/02.jpg

There’s some tough fights for the breakaway ahead of the start of the first climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gzl.png Leknessund and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/bnb.png Thill are some of the most common attackers, but it is tough for a gap to be created.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/03.jpg

Only 3 riders can get away mid-climb on the first category 2. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel leads the way with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift joining forces. First over the top of the climb will take the upper hand for the KOM.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/05.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift takes the first place spot over the top of the climb, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum. The peloton is lead by Grieg-Maersk and the remaining points go to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Waerenskjold and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Kiflay without concern. The gap is approximately 3:45 over the first climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel finds the first sprint point important as he takes the win over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum. With the 6 second bonus, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel finds himself tied for 3rd in the youth classification and will hold that spot assuming he the breakaway makes it to the 2nd intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/07.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel leads the entire 2nd climb to take victory over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel now sit even with 18 points each while the gap extends massively to the peloton and now sits at 5:33. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Hulgaard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Kiflay gain the points here so Grieg-Maersk now have 3 riders on 4 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/08.jpg

The 2nd intermediate sprint comes 89km from the finish and the gap has not dropped from the top of the last climb, extending out past 6:00 minutes. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum remain in that order across the sprint point. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Waerenskjold remains on the front of the peloton as no one else wants to help pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/09.jpg

The 3rd climb of the day is a 3rd category, but is crucial for the KOM standings. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel leads the group all the way up the climb again with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Swift sprinting for 2nd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum remains consistent in his 3rd places. It’s just a 2:45 gap now to the peloton as Minions and ELCO-ABEA contribute now with hopes of a stage win.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/10.jpg

The final 3rd category climb gives the opportunity for a tie in the KOM standings. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel leads the climb again, but this one levels out at the top. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel still takes the win even though pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Krigbaum gave a great run for his money. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel will take the KOM jersey here in Czechia. The gap is 2:00 exactly with 35km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/11.jpg

30km to go and the gap is down to 1 minute as ISA-Hexacta joins the chase with hopes for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan. Team Popo4Ever p/b Morshynska also contributes for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski. It’s a long peloton as the rolling hills have created some tiny gaps here and there but it comes back together quickly.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/12.jpg

The catch is made with just a bit moer than 20km to go after the breakaway holds out for as long as they can. They look dead so it will be curious if pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel can stay and use his bonus seconds from the sprints to gain that youth jersey placing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/13.jpg

It’s ISA - Hexacta and ELCO-ABEA with the two major trains heading into the final 10km. GC hopefuls are still well positioned near the front as well to guarantee no breaks in the group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/14.jpg

4km to go and the group is very hectic heading into the finale. ELCO-ABEA and ISA-Hexacta remain at the front but the organization is lacking. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan is the last man in his train at the front while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard has completely lost the train and sits about 5 rows back. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ziz.png Jakobsen has gained pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan’s wheel for now with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Van Poppel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Prasad on either side. Lots of folks look ready to strike.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/15.jpg

It’s a slight uphill finish in the final 2.5km so sprinters will need to time their sprint properly. One side the ISA-Hexacta train is well formed with Diamini - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Santos - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan. On the opposite side, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Hulgaard is finding space to bring Larsen to the front while Stavrakakis officially leads the group. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/bnb.png Carsi has joined those attempting to find pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan’s wheel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan hits the front as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Santos pulls off after a short lead-out with almost everyone else going solo from here. The situation looks like

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewanpcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Santos

With pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard sprinting from behind this mess. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard’s only positive is that he’s found pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Bouglas who might be able to bring him up the left side to free space.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/17.jpg

600m to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ziz.png Jakobsen officially holds the lead, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski has shot up the left side into 3rd and is moving fast. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mol.png Keough has also strengthened his position as many seem to be struggling with having gone too early.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard finds his burst! It’s not pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski neck and neck. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ldl.png Peak sits in 3rd with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tti.png Samolenkov in 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mol.png Keough and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ziz.png Jakobsen but there’s still room left to sprint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tti.png Samolenkov finds space on the rail and jumps to the lead! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ldl.png Peak is still in contention alongside pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski is in 4th but the row for 5th is absolutely packed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tti.png Samolenkov takes the win by a bike length! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/min.png Ahlstrand finds a path through the middle for 2nd with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ldl.png Peak 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/20.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard is the best of the rest after going just a tad early but still gets 4th. It’ll be tight to see if he can withhold pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tti.png Samolenkov for the green. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/p4e.png Aniolkowski takes 5th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/yor.png Cullaigh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/isa.png Ewan, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ziz.png Jakobsen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mol.png Keough, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/akm.png Prasad who all gave it a good run but just went a tad too early.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/21.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/tti.png Samolenkov takes a well deserved victory!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Würtz manages an uneventful GC stage to remain on top of the GC standings and win Praha-Karlovy Vary - Praha. Somehow he escapes without images.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/22.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Evenepoel makes great use of the breakaway to secure the polka-dot jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/23.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ela.png Coquard holds on by 1 point for the green jersey

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/24.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/grm.png Hulgaard takes his white jersey victory after hard work for himself and teammates.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Praha/S4/25.jpg

EA Vesuvio takes the Team Classification win.
