Paris - Nice - Stage 1

Paris Nice this year is a rather flat/hilly version and same is todays profile. Mainly flat, all but a sprint finish would be a surprise but couple small hills on the way for the KoM hunters.

The French Moser rider surely the most experienced and strongest uphill.

A mix of Polar and Amaysim riders are mainly working today. ELCO and a few other teams support them from time to time.

The group stayed together till the final KoM and in the end Bonnamour first got his expected points but then got surprised by Krasts on the Cat.2 and eventually both will be at 14 points!
Van den Berg without a chance there settles in as 3rd with Barthe and Evangelos showing up on the KoM rankings from the peloton doing the work.

A bit later the peloton is about to make the catch. Bonnamour as last rider will be caught and the sprinter teams can prepare the final.

2 1/2 trains here. Polar and ELCO are easily to see while Amaysim has a two rider setup.

The Polar and ELCO trains somehow fusion into one big white train and also switching sides somehow. Both main sprinters well placed still even though Becis is no longer there with 1,6km to go and Coquard still in between his support riders.

Groves trying to find the place behind Coquard, which though isn`t very easy with the Elco double block.

Bogdanovics and Banaszek lead the rest.

A bit more than 1km to go. Philipsen already in the wind while Coquard has lost a bit. Not sure what happened there, was he waiting for his later team mate to pass him for a longer cover?

Bogdanovics, Zhao, Banaszek and Van der Kooij all ahead of him. Neither Groves there anymore sitting next to Coquard.

500m and with Philipsen apparently being in the wind too early, Coquard sees his chance and together with Groves he is fast on the left side of the road while many sprinters are on the other side. Will be a close one here.

The wind seems to come from the front today as many sprinters who went early, seem to struggle big time.

Instead it`s Bol and Kragh Andersen now at the front with Contreras and Carsi well placed.

Coquard meanwhile AGAIN blocked. He lost the duel at the barrier against Groves for a moment and now that Groves seem to no longer accelerate Coquard is blocked.l

Therefore the 2nd line seems best. Kragh Andersen with a nice win in the end. Carlsberg clearly enjoying this a lot as any point will be vital for them.

Bol in 2nd ahead of Carsi and Contreras. Then Silvestre ahead of Groves.

Coquard down to 11th with Philipsen even to 16th. Not a good start for the fastest sprinters today as none of their sprint trains were working today which was also due to the head wind clearly.
